Coogihat
How do the darkness/madness spec and deception spec compare DPS wise? I know with a spec like this (http://www.torhead.com/skill-calc#200rcrozrskfZ0zZf0cMb.1) you get a Energized 15% increased Chain Shock, increased crit on Thrash, and the seemingly very powerful improved Force Lightning from Harnessed Darkness. With abilities like these it seems one can do some nice DPS (on single targets at least) while maintaining a higher level of survivability. How does the Deception spec compare damage wise to the above? I know one probably does more burst with Deception, but on the whole, does Deception do more dps consistently to single targets? Assuming ofc that you play smart ie. not jumping into groups and keeping the deaths to a minimum.

Theorycrafting at Sithwarriors.com showed Madness to deal more dps than the other two. I've played a spec similar to this one and the damage it deals pales in comparison to Madness. Deception with its reduced cost and added damage to Shock from 2x VS, plus reduced cost on Maul, will be able to do more damage imo than Darkness. While Darkness gets some damage increase to the Assassin's abilities, there is nothing reducing the high cost of abilities. Shock is very expensive to use and Darkness relies on it to provide the majority of its DPS. You're basically in a Thrash-til-Energize-then-Shock rotation, Force depletes very fast doing this. Deception actually gives you even higher damage on Shock (though no guaranteed crit) and at half the cost and its Discharge is way more effective dps-wise than Darkness. Coogihat
Interesting, that makes me want to check out madnses But really, I think I'll just try out all the specs for myself and stick with what feels the best. Like you said, until we have dmg logs, it's rather hard to tell.

It takes a while to master but once you get the hang of it, you'll enjoy it a lot.
sankalp
also, healers love coming up against madness sins as compared to decepsins. As a healer, you can heal small dot over time easily. Ask any healer, they will tell u the thing they hate most is burst, so burst is the way to go. best burst is ofc deception. with recklessness OS and relic, you can 4 shot anyone. What I do is jump in a big fight, throw mass mind control, force slow, and then burst on single target, hopefully healer and thats enough to cause massive painc in enemy ranks. Cubertt
in my experiance in PvP it goes dot spec>tank spec> infil or deception ( sry i dont remember the sith versions of the other 2) with that said infil is my favorite bc of what that one dude said about healers. does least amount of damage but it gets your main job done the best. KILLLLLLLING if you want your stats to look shiny, however, then tank or dot spec are the way to go
Acindo
But really, I think I'll just try out all the specs for myself and stick with what feels the best. That is a very good decision. I have tried all 3 specs. Deception is a blast for me. Madness is alright. Darkness is soo boring. Plus I like blowing healers up.
