Dev Update - Gunslingers now officially useless in PVP warzones!

Well, at least the devs have cleared up any ambiguity about whether or nor gunslingers should be allowed in PVP warzones. From the current patch notes:

 

Players affected by a Damage Over Time ability are no longer interrupted when interacting with objectives.

 

I always felt like that was my one useful contribution in warzones. I knew that I did less damage than other classes, had limited mobility, was extremely squishy, couldn't heal or defend other players, looked like a dork in a cape, and couldn't carry a huttball but at least I could DOT up enemies to keep them from capping! Apparently this one useful function was more than they intended for us.

 

Honestly BW, if you don't want a particular class to be useful in the game why don't you at least tell us in advance so we don't waste our time leveling these toons?

do like most others and use straight dps, you can be at 30m to do it, just use pillar in voidstar or the ledge in civil war.

 

They nerfed that because some classes got dot that last 18sec. So you drop that on someone and he cant take the point for 18 sec which is in itself OP.

 

I dont have problem stopping people from capping as a scoundrel, you should with a 30m class

I, myself was a bit shocked when i saw this. Now, the only worthwhile spec is SS and all we can bring to the group is damage.

 

I don't see why they would implement such a change but i would now expect people to pay much much less attention to objectives and more attention to doing damage to random enemy players. With the buff to wz commendations and valor i have no intention to do otherwise

We just can't sit at a point and dot people up now. Not a big deal, since that shouldn't have been our main role to begin with. Now the tanks and heavy armor classes can appropriately sit and defend the points that, if attacked, could survive longer than 4 seconds under pressure, so we can go between the points and help whatever side actually needs it.

 

I'm not going to say I didn't see this coming either. I told everyone I talked to, this is really the only nerf gunslinger is going to receive, it can only go uphill from here for us.

 

Gonna have to start yelling at the tanks to babysit the point, it's not my job anymore!

Throw more grenades?

 

We don't have heavy armor, a sprint, bubble, heal or vanish. We are really squishy. Throwing a grenade or is like screaming HEY IM HERE!!! and that results in being decimated rather quickly.

 

If we can't dot people to prevent them from capping, there is little use in throwing a grenades and dying every single time and waiting half a mintute to respawn.

 

Calling Flyby is the only viable alternative and that is not a spammable ability (and it shouldn't be)

I actually enjoy it tho to be honest I am only level 12 and have already hit over 200k in wz matches avg over 100k with ease and have at least 5-6 medals just spamming grenades lol. Levels 10 - 12 almost 13 all PVP fun. Well not just grenade I kick / blaster slap a b as well running on peeps shooting them in the face and hitting my dots. Death is just refueling in my book.

 

After playing a deception SIN to 50 this is like insane numbers for the level lol...

Two problems with the "keep DPSing" response as I see it:

 

1) We're not that good at DPS. Mercs and Sorcs out DPS us if they are spec'd for it and are still more mobile and have more survivability.

 

2) Killing people does not win warzones. Objectives win warzones and we are no longer useful in that area at all. We can shoot stuff and stop them from capping? Any class can do that and every other class will still be able to do useful things like heal, tank, mez, carry the ball, etc.

 

Honestly, what's the point in a gunslinger for PVP now? What can we do now that is not done better by another class?

1) We're not that good at DPS. Mercs and Sorcs out DPS us if they are spec'd for it and are still more mobile and have more survivability.

 

2) Killing people does not win warzones. Objectives win warzones and we are no longer useful in that area at all. We can shoot stuff and stop them from capping? Any class can do that and every other class will still be able to do useful things like heal, tank, mez, carry the ball, etc.

 

Honestly, what's the point in a gunslinger for PVP now? What can we do now that is not done better by another class?

 

 

1) Our damage and burst is amazing. I've had my share of 5k-5.5k crits and a constant 3-4.5k in my rotations. What the problem is, is not DPS; Its the fact that these classes can los and heal to full, then come back and kill us.

 

2) You don't get it...in patch 1.5 it won't be as important winning a warzone anymore...Getting your 4 medals will. Win or loss, the faster a WZ ends, the quicker you can requeue. The changes were done so that it will be harder to prevent the enemy team from capping, thus faster games. (dot interrupt nerf, Bike 3 second delay)

 

The point of a gunslinger is to do damage. The one thing i can agree on at this point is that we do nothing than any other class cannot do better.

 

 

EDIT: All the changes seem to aim to a quicker acquisition of gear to minimalize the gear gap in pvp and i'm content with that because when everyone is at a similar gear level it will be easier to balance each class.

 

Now, if we got nerfed again in any possible way it would be an overkill.

Killing peeps actually do win wz with ease if the other team is all in the graveyard they can't stop you from capping lol.

None of the warzones are won by killing opponents. All of them are won by meeting the objectives. Team mates running around killing the other team instead of focusing on the objectives is a top reason why teams lose in PVP.

Class issues should be addressed outside of issues within a mini-game.

 

I've never had a stalemate but I've definitely had a problem with taking objectives that the enemy already holds. Once something is taken already it is hard to take back.

 

I think this is a good change, and as a GS this won't affect my playing warzones. I am a SS though :p

Stalemates were only an issue when both sides were equally matched. DOTS are easily countered with purges or simply chain mezzing the GS and killing them when they respawned (happened to me more times than I care to remember.) I typically do 250K-300K damage with 25-30 kills, DOT constantly with Shrap and vital, and still manage to lose 2/3rds of the PVP warzones that I run. (It's a team event.) If DOTs are so OP shouldn't having a DF traited GS be an "I win" for the team?

 

If all you care about is gettng 4 medals and moving on then GS are largely unaffected. When I play a WZ I try to win. This will make a significant difference in my ability to contribute IMHO.

Can anyone think of a reason to pick the "premier" 31 point talent in the saboteur tree anymore?

I wonder if this includes XS Freighter, if it does, that is very lame.
i'm currently more inclined to think that field aoe damage is different from dot debuff effect, and that it shouldn't be affected by the patch. like he said:

I doubt it does. An aoe is different from a DOT since it's not applied to a target, but to an area.

so if this is true, then actually it gives more reason to play 31 point sabslinger.

 

It would be ok, had BW reduced the cost of our weapon aoe attack...

 

But hey, inqs/counselors get the shaft too, in this regard. Not that it matters much to them, but hey-it's the first nerf, even if unintentional.

You're playing with the wrong people then, it wasn't necessary, people need to L2P.

I'm calling BS on this. I'm half BM half Champ and I've hit one person for over 5K. Unless you have change your mods for increased Power over the crit rating, I don't see how thi is possible.
