CC in this game is driving me ******* crazy

I play as a ranged class, and what I'm seeing in some circumstances with full resolve bar is not just an immobilize. It's a full on stun which also happens to stop my resolve white bar from moving as well in some occasions.

I don't want to sound egotistical or high and mighty, but I'm an older gamer and have been around the block more than a few times. I realize many players are younger than me as well as the casual crowd and newer players to the genre. But I do know the difference of the mechanics in a game.

Also, I'm not saying this happens every time I get a full resolve bar. Just with the hours I have logged in game I can comfortable say this has happened many times. I'm hoping to pinpoint this and post it somewhere, but until then all I really have is my word. I know that isn't much these days but if its something I'm missing I really have no other explaination of it not being a stun.

I'm fairly certain I have seen the same thing.

I think in intense PvP when server/client lag is taken into account, things are going through that shouldn't. I've had a white resolve bar that's slowly going down, then bam I can't move and the resolve bar stops going down and shortly after I'm dead. Maybe it's the root vvv caultonpos vvv is talking about, but even still roots shouldn't work when you have a white resolve bar. When I charge someone with a white resolve bar the root is never applied, ever, so why is this Sorc root being applied? Bug?

All types of CC should be adding to your resolve bar, and it turn you should be immune from all types off CC when your resolve bar is full and cooling down.

Now that i have full madness spec on my sorc I'm a beast at huttball because while they walk over the pit thinking they have full resolve - i root them and they die.

My root is on a 9 second cooldown.

I feel bad doing it.

Still with marauder one on one I get eaten alive. With operatives they would kill me but I stun and run and they cant close the gap.

I don't think the real issue is the amount of CC.

It is how reslove and CC break work atm.

I know for a fact I have been chain CC'd when reslove should have prevent the last several CCs from applying.

CC break, with a 2 min CD should provde a window of immunity.

IMHO.

Could be an interrupt. Those still work against full resolve, I'm pretty sure, and they can lock you out of using that ability for a few seconds.

EDIT: Now that Sweeet mentions it, I have noticed a lag between death. So that might be what you're experiencing. It's like when the mobs die standing up. Sometimes you're dead and your client just doesn't tell you till a half second or more later.

Agreed. I can live with slows, minor snares, etc...but the excessive stuns are incredibly dumb. I've come to the conclusion that half the players who kill others only do so because one was stunned and they were not. This is most frustrating in Huttball when you get the ball, literally the moment you get it, your cursor is over the CC release key (at least mine is :p).

I still don't understand how clickers pvp. Not trying to be a dick but at the same time why gimp yourself in an environment where reaction time is paramount?

This is a good point. It's not so much the CC it's that the CC grossly imbalances melee and ranged. Resolve was a good concept but it needs to be bolstered.

My feelings exactly. Resolve is a fantastic idea that just needs some polishing imo. Balancing things by nerfing roots to also be affected by resolve might be a start.

The only problem with CC is noobs who spam it and give resolve to good players who then lolcap the huttball. CC in not a problem in any other warzone or pvp situation since you have just as much cc and cc avoidance as the next guy, provided you took the steps to prepare for PVP by building a pvp talent spec. I could see CC being a problem for PVE spec'd players since they lack the necessary counters to compete against PVP spec'd players. Thats not the games fault, thats your lack of preparation and understanding of your class.

Wait now, I did not say L2P class noob just there. I said prepare and understand your class as it handles very differently in PVP as it does in PVE. If you are a melee class, you can talent yourself to make up for whatever disadvantages being CC'd brings, from such things as passive dmg reduction while CC'd, to resource recovery while CC'd. Theres a number of cooldowns in every class that will keep you alive during the CC, as long as you have enough battlefield awareness to anticipate the coming stuns - IE If you have the huttball, if you're capping a turret/door, if you're healing/guarding the carrier/healer, IF YOU ARE MELEE AND ENGAGING A GROUP, and almost every 2v1 and 3v1 you find yourself caught in.

PVP is a big CC avoidance game, huttball moreso than the others. Be ready for it and respond accordingly. If you are "perma-stunned" its probably because you are outnumbered because you were out of position (you reckless cowboy you) and death comes for you on swift wings anyway, CC'd or not.

Might as well use your mouse to cursor over towards it if you're CC'd. Not like you'll be CC'd again or anything thus rending it void.

This has to be one of the main reasons why I am not playing as much lately. I have done a ton of PVP in this game, and there are times I enjoy it...when not playing huttball. Huttball is THE worst map to see just how bad and out of control the CC is due to the whole map design.

When I play civil war or voidstar, I really don't notice the CC as much, but the huttball map is the most frustrating because of all the traps and being knocked off the ramps.

I got a feedback e-mail from Bioware about what I think of the game, and I told them my thoughts on the CC situation. Hopefully, MAYBE in the future, they will tone it down. But seeing how well that worked out in Warhammer I doubt it.

Every MMO ever released had issues with CC early on. WoW has done several revisions of it. SWTOR is no different. It's not terrible, like in many other games in the past, but it has some frustrations for sure.

Resolve definitely has some bugs. I've had full resolve and been unable to even throw the huttball while immobilized. I'm wondering if the stun-on-charge juggs/guards can get in the tanking tree is not affected by resolve. It appears to me that several things aren't affected by resolve (like that & grenades). They need to do a pass and test each and every CC in house and ensure it is properly building resolve & properly not-cc'ing when at full resolve. Something is wrong there, they just need to look into it.

As far as solutions go,

1) I like earlier recommendations about lowering the cooldown of the CC-breaker. I think 30 seconds could safely be shaved off it without causing problems. I'd like to see the lowering talent shave off another 15-20 on top of that.

2) CC-break should definitely reset on death, every time. Pretty dumb that it doesn't.

3) And of course, a good look at resolve and find the bugs that cause complete stunning even with a full resolve bar. It seems some CC effects aren't affected by resolve, and it isn't just immobilizes/snares.

4) Looking at resolve decay could also be of help here. Part of the reason we deal with so much CC is that most CC does not put you on resolve, and after several seconds, the resolve decays away so the next CC lands full-effect. The main thing Resolve protects against is chain-CC, and that's about it. If the decay was a little slower we'd see full resolve bars more frequently instead of just when getting chain-cc'd.

I think immobilizes are actually OK the way they are implemented. Most are tied to charge and immobilze is an important ability for melee classes. If anything I'd like to see immobilizes on ranged classes looked at.

Bioware has a bunch of mythic folks in the house, you'd think they could bestow upon them a decade of PvP wisdom. Mythic had the right idea in Warhammer where Tanks were primary CC classes, and tanks were the only class that could perma-snare, etc. THey also showed what happens when you give too much CC to a ranged dps class (bright wizards, lol). If they stick to principles where melee are primarily the classes with knockdowns/immobilizes, and tanks have the most CC they'll be in a good place. Mythic also dealt with CC issues in both Warhammer and DAoC. That said, Bioware hasn't done an overly terrible job. What they have now is workable but could use some tweaks.
