Republic vs. Republic Huttball: Why?

On my server, there's a 5:1 (or at least 4:1) population of Empire to Republic.

Often I end up stuck in a Voidstar or Civil War with only 4 other teammates at the start because we supposedly don't have enough people.

My question is - why in the galaxy are they pitting me against my own faction in Huttball, when they could be using that 8 of us to fight the Imps in the other warzones? I had assumed that same-faction Huttball was just the way to deal with long Empire queues, so it makes no sense to me to pit the small faction against itself.

I make this thread after the last couple days getting 3 Rep vs. Rep Huttballs in a row, and then having the others disband after 120 seconds due to not enough people.

I want to better understand how they select warzones and sort us during the queue process. Thanks.

Personally, I find other reps much easier to fight against (I strongly believe there to be maths imbalance under the bonnet (or "under the hood" for you yanks)). Pitting reps against reps means at least some get a win towards their daily mission every now and then.

Actually, as an imperial, I find other imperials much easier to fight against as well.

Simple. The imps aren't queuing up. They're all farming valor in Lolilum.

First off, as a new 50, the majoritiy of my warzone experience has been in the <50 bracket, and it was the same thing.

Even if they were all out in Ilum, how come it's always 5 of us against a full group of them at the start of many warzones? If they were under-queuing wouldn't they have the same problem?

I don't have the PVP experience or the tools to weigh in on this one, except to guess that there isn't a math imbalance inherently, but that imperials are on average a little better geared. Republic does indeed have an easier time winning Huttball against our own faction, but I think it's partially because we recognize some of the players on the other side and know what their spec is and how they play. Of course that goes both ways, but still...

I'd rather lose one of the other warzones than play Huttball over half the time and get a few wins.

If you're on a server where imps outnumber pubs 3-1, and you're getting pub on pub huttball at level 50 it's because the imps are sitting on lolillum and not queuing up.

Even on heavily imbalanced servers it's completely possible to end up in a Republic v. Republic Huttball game. Remember, the matchmaker doesn't care what the total population of the server is, only the available population it has to make a PvP game out of. So let's say that 96 Imperials queue up on your server, and only 32 Republic players queue up.

Depending on the timing of everyone queueing up, you could very easily see 2 RvI matches (leaving 16 remaining Republic players and 80 remaining Imps) and then because of timing, the matchmaker will push 5 IvI Huttball matchups through to get everyone into a game as fast as possible and suddenly, the only matchup it can field is an RvR Huttball match.

It's not perfect, but it's the system working to get you into a game as quickly as possible.
