Ventrilo

Hey everyone,

The problem I'm having with Vent and SWToR is when I push to talk when I'm in game. According to some people, I sound like I have a mo-ped running in the background whenever I push to talk.

However, if the game is alt-tabbed or the game is off, I broadcast just fine.

And yes, Vent is opened (run) as administrator (since that's the only way to talk with PTT). I've been an avid user of Vent for about 5 years, but I'm not sure what to do here.

Suggesting to use another program is fine... but I have a Vent server until April and I figured I would use it until it ends.

Thanks for the help.

I have found the best fix for most problems for Vent acting weird is to make sure to Run this Program as an Administrator.

Right click on Vent Icon/Shortcut

Properties

Compatibility Tab

Privilege Level = <Tick> Run this program as an administrator

Hope that helps.

I think it's safe to assume you didn't actually read the OP's post in it's entirety...

Do you have your game set to windowed full screen? Might help seeing as you have no trouble when tabbed out.

I have the game going full screened (not windowed). I'll try windowed, but I have my doubts. We'll see.

All sound settings in game have not been modified, so I'm pretty sure it has something to do with Vent or my computer.

Is that any different that right clicking the icon and hitting "Run as Administrator"?

Could it be something with your pc? Could SW:TOR be using up too much of your RAM thus hurting Vent?

Asking but I have no clue if this could affect it. Just offering ideas. :)

Mm... I don't think so. Vent is fine if I'm alt-tabbed out of swtor (running in the background) and I doubt the RAM usage would drop that much, but I could be wrong.

There's no problem running any other game (like WoW, BF3 and such) with Vent, it's just swtor.

Thanks for the idea though.

For some reason the game itself seems to run in Admin which means you need Vent at same level to allow it to map push to talk while you have SWTOR focus on screen.

Still dont know why really the game/launcher needs to run in Admin mode.

I love how half the people havn't even read your post and keep telling you to run in Admin despite you already saying you are running in admin.

There are a few things that might help

First off, what type of connection does your mic use, is it USB or Coaxial. If it is USB try changing what port it is in, if your system has USB 1.0 USB 2.0 and/or USB 3.0 slots make sure it is in the highest one. If your running Coaxial double check your connections, move it to the back port if your plugged in through the front.

If none of that changes anything run the game in Windowed Fullscreen mode, force run the game as Admin (even though it auto runs as admin, some properties may not register properly unless admin is forced by the user). Then while the game is open, Tab over to Vent and reset your settings then relauch Vent with the game open. You will only need to do this once, after you should be able to launch them in any order and no settings will need to be adjusted.

I had similar issues in the last week of Beta.

Haha, I'm trying to be patient :)

I'm using coaxial and I tried plugging them into the back port and it seems that was it! Confirmed it was nothing wrong with swtor or vent so it must have been a hardware issue.

Thanks for the help!

The front ports on PCs tend to be problematic as they are connected to the motherboard by a thin and often stretched wire so breaks are common, while the back ports are direct connection as well as priority connection.

Rule of thumb, if you have issues with it plugged in the front, plug it in the back.

I have found <Right Clicking> and running as Administrator does not work all the time. Hope that helps. Rather changing the settings in properties works better.

Yes I did but I was assuming they may only be <Right Clicking> and run as Administrator, I am only making suggestions on my experience, on using the <Right Click> Run as Administrator compared to going into the properties and changing it there.
