Objectives and Medals in warzones

I have noticed that there is a real disparity in medals and objectives.

 

Huttball

 

1. Do not get points or medals for scoring with the ball

2. Do not get points or medals for carrying the ball

 

 

Voidstar

 

1. don't get points or medals for protecting the door

2. don't get points or medals for placing bombs

 

Alderaan

 

1. don't get points or medals for taking a turret

2. don't get points or medals for interrupting the other team from taking the turret

 

The PVP in SWTOR is not all about damage and kills. Objectives are the key to warzones but it seems to me that some objectives are not being tracked for a successful warzone.

I guess here that the idea that they were going for is that the benefit you get for carrying the ball or placing a bomb on a door or capturing the turret is that you win the game. With getting the win being so important and beneficial I guess they didn't really see a need to give you medals for something you should be doing anyway.

 

It's not that you don't have a point. I think that there should be medals for doing certain things in warzones as well.

It's not that you don't have a point. I think that there should be medals for doing certain things in warzones as well.

 

I mention this because the Objective points and Medals are modifiers for your valor and commendations. So the more you have the more you get for the win/lose.

I'm glad they're going to implement more medals and fix the objective system, I know right now that it is broken. I can score 4 out of 6 points in huttball and get zero objective points or arm the bomb on every door in void star the same.

 

There is going to be a resounding problem though with adding points for objectives and that will be people going overboard to achieve the objective. The guy that should pass in huttball but won't because he needs to score for more medals while the people healing him get nothing. Unless they add medals for support...ie taking the ball, passing for a gain, healing the carrier, or guarding the carrier.

 

In the other 2 everyone will be on the door trying to catch the bomb plant and leaving no one to defend and keep the enemy away b/c they're trying to get their objectives. They need to award points to everyone in the area of the capture, they provided support just as important as the guy that clicked on the node.

 

I'm not saying they're not going to include this but if they make it generic and literal to being specifically about the objective and not in support of, it'll be a problem.

 

With every incentive comes problems. If you roll with a group this won't be an issue but if you're like me and solo que most of the time this will probably be an issue we'll see a lot. I really hope not but I have a strong feeling that that is what it's going to turn in to.

Healers do get Medals and objective points for healing players near the ball carrier. Juggernauts get medals and objective points for performing certain skills next to the ball carrier for damage reduction.

I can see medals for scoring being really painful.

 

Suddenly in Huttball you have a sniper trying to run the ball in, refusing to pass because he wants that extra medal. That's definitely what I want. And on the other hand, it's de-facto punishing you for playing your class "properly" if you're playing a class that shouldn't be ball carrying or bomb planting.

 

 

 

If we need to incentivize objectives more, just make the reward for winning larger or the consolation prize smaller ( or both ).
