What's the hold up on 1.2?

I think this question deserves an answer. This game shipped in a state where it was severely lacking in several areas. Yet over time it's been revealed to us that a lot of stuff is going into 1.2. Why is so much going into one patch? You have multiple teams of course. I find it hard to believe all of those teams are going to finish their features at the same time though.

Clearly some things are being held back to go into this "big patch" all at once. That might be fine if the game was in a more mature state. Right now though I think it deserves an explanation.

Why is so much going into one patch?

Because it's quite often easier that way. You add in systems that dependent on each other or at least fit together in some way. So without one the other doesn't work quite right.

They are doing stuff ahead of time to get preped for 1.2, this stuff is listed in the 1.1.5 notes.

Quite simply I'd rather have to wait a few more weeks to get 1.2 instead of having stuff come out now and only be partly working because it needs other stuff that isn't in yet.

Well, since they said it was going to be in march, I would guess that it is comming in March. If you know about 1.2, you must know this, because no discussion on 1.2 omits the March release outline.

I heard it was going to be on march 22 at 4:04:03 pm. Is that what you want to hear?

It's the end of Feb and it's not even on a test server yet. They can't put such a big patch on test for a mere week. So when they said march they meant end of march. Probably still a month away basically.

Regardless of it coming "soon" I think they need to explain why we get our first real feature patch 3 months after release. We still don't have basic staples like dual spec or even a LFG tool. Never mind moronic stuff like no combat log which they have to put in despite a very vocal extreme minority.

The reality is the patching of this game has not been impressive to date and they need to explain that.

An explaination? OK, they've been collecting data since the game launched, and listening to customer feedback and suggestions. Best I can tell, a large majority of the items brought up in the forums and reported in-game are being addressed.

More content.

More useful crafting.

Full legacy system.

Graphics improvements (quality and performance).

UI customizations.

Ability and anmation tweaks.

Oh, yeah, and the rest of Rise of the Rhakghouls.

The list goes on. Hate to break it to ya, but some of that stuff takes more than a couple weeks to design, implement, test, tweak, re-test etc..

OK, so here's the explanation.... You're too impatient.

Why do you all keep bringing up that it's out in march? That's my entire point. March is too late. Just because they planned to patch at a point which is too late doesn't make it OK. The start of March was too late and they clearly aren't going to make that.

It takes X hours of dev time, and X hours of art asset time, and X hours of QA time, and so on, to make a patch.

They aren't waiting until March just because they said it will come out in March. They're waiting until it's done and resting for the PTS, for people to test it.

Pushing it out any sooner means it's not done and that will do much more harm then having it come out at the end of March.

It won't matter to many posters in this forum when they release it. They won't like it even if it is the greatest thing since sliced bread.

As someone else replied, if as you say your main point is March is too late for you, then just unsub and go play something else.

It's called marketing and consumer recall.

What's easier to use as leverage to both existing and previous customers?

"Weekly patches and we had a giant content push, patch 1.2, in march - two months after release"

Or "We have a buncha weekly patches"

To be fair, my understandig is it's a content patch, not a balance patch, and thus presumably LESS need for it to be up on a public test server. And we already had our first real feature patch. 1.1. (To be fair, I'd actually be relatively surprised if 1.2 was *ever* up in all it's glory on the PTS before hitting live servers)
