How do merc healers stack up to sorc healers?

I'm only asking because before, I was under the impression that in general sorcs were the better healers, almost every wz I went into had a sorc at the top of the list, but the other day I was on my sent with a commando pocket healing me, and christ, I was completely invincible, we did an aldaraan and he kept us up through 5 imperials trying to take the node. (Granted, they weren't very good, and I did need to pop defensive cds) but it was insane.

I've never seen a sorcerer pull anything like this before. So I'm wondering if this was just a fluke, an amazing player against a bad team, or what.

Commando healers are not sub par. I'd even say they are best healers for single target.

Procs on their abilities give buffs and HoTs. They are not as straightforward as sorcerers though and have no so much mobility.

In short, you have found great healer, but most of his success in the event comes from improper control of his heals by your enemies.

Well did theu focus on him you or split in between the two of you. A lot depends on that.if you are getting healed and the healer gets attacked protect him. Its a win win situation. Mostly ppl like to get healed but dont protect a healer at all if I have to heal myself all the time I cant heal you.

Its like this:

Sorc:

Best AoE heals

BH:

Best singletargetheals (given no interrupts)

Operative:

Instantheals and HoTs

Commando is still completely gimped for raidhealing due to the inability to heal many people at once (koltobomb is a joke). Thankfully this is getting fixed in 1.2.

Mercs get probably the best heal in the game. A 3s channel heal that allows them to move instead of standing still. This, in pvp is amazing.

Sorcs on the other hand get the best AOE heal in the game, and good utility, and scoundrels have the best burst healing and vanish. A healer with vanish :).

It really depends on your playstyle. In 8v8 premades we are thinking of running 1 sage and 1 merc, but we are unsure yet.

This, plus BH/Troopers have heavy armor and defensive cooldowns. Think Holy Paladin, if you've ever played WoW.

lololol.

Ok. I guess we have the best burst healing, but if we do burst heal we have no energy for the next 30 seconds and can do no healing.

Also, Vanish means no healing dealt or received by the operative/scoundrel. So Vanish is worthless except for escape, which doesn't help your team at all. Zero utility beyond stealth and flashbang (melee range mez), and stealth's utility is standing still out of combat not helping your team.

Op/Sco healers are the worst by leaps and bounds. It's not even close. Like, it isn't even an imaginable possibility.

keep thinking they are bad ,

1) After the burst healing (which kept your guys alive, while their guy died), you can pop cool head and get most of energy back.

2) You pop disappearing act as a last resort ... like those oh **** moments when 3 marauders are pounding you. The 10s of no heals while you reposition and de stealth is worth having 3 of their dps twiddling their thumbs while your 3 dps destroyed their healer.

Keep laughing though and wonder why your premade rank will be the equivalent of a 1600 arena player.

I have a bh healer full heal spec tree, and im currently leveling a sorc (hes at lvl 43 now) just to answer this exact question for myself.

I find as a bh healer I have a massive amount of survivability because of the heavy armor. defensive relics and adrenals. and you may as well not even try 1vs1 me because you just wont win. if I get to 1/3 morale im going to pop my shields, use my medpack, my instant heal, and surge to make one of my inductive heals instant also. boom back to full life. if i have cool downs, i'll do it the old fashion way and inductive heal myself with shields on. (immune to interupts when skill points are spent) and this applys when healing targets too (except for the medpack part)

my healing output is not as high as sorcs ( i heal like a mad man and sorcs romp all over my warzone figures), and it seems the heals are not as large either, but they can be very sustainable. inductions are not to long, and heat can be easy to manage.

I do think the AOE is incredibly weak, effecting only three targets instantly for a small amount and does not HOT at all. although this is getting fixed in the 1.2 update. I still think the bh healer is in need of a combat rez especialy since BH are a viable option for raid healers. (I dont want to be excluded because I cant rez) overall I love it.

on my noob sorc. the thing i find fun so far, is the amount of morale per single heal, and the range at which i can heal at, and the fact I can mix it up with dps. shocks, stuns, interupts. and because of this it seems a heal/dps hybrid has the potential to be incredible. (just an observation)

I dont like the fact that im squishy, partly due to being acustomed to my bh healer and athough I have force run escaping the scene of the crime is difficult if im the target of multiple foes.

I also find it hard to stand my ground and brute heal through dps (if I am healing myself).

if im healing a target under pressure, the inductions seem to take forever. (perhaps this will get better with gear bonus's or perhaps im just crazy). I think the AOE of the sorc is fantastic, and killing two sorc healers healing each other is easier said than done, i dont care who you are.

I cant wait to get my sorc to lvl 50 (and somewhat geared) to compare the 2 more accurately and see which one suits the way I play better.

According to the Q&A section from the devs, all class's that spec full heals can complete endgame content as healers. (biowares employees can do it so can we) so I guess it just comes down to how do you want to play?

good luck. :)

Yeah loving my BH in pvp, think operatives could use a little more love healing wise. Would love to see Bioware employees tackle nightmare mode with 2 operatives healing, havent read all the post on this forums so I dont know if anyone has ever completed a run with either 2 merc healing or 2 operatives, but would think 2 sorc healing is pretty easy.

Sages / Inquisitors generally have the highest healing output which puts them on the top of most meters.

However in PvP output and AoE healing isn't all that important.

This is where Commando/Merc healers and Scoundrels/Operatives really shine.

Scoundrels are very mobile healers while Commandos simply DO NOT DIE.

Commandos are essentially the Paladins on SWTOR, Scoundrels are the Druids (kite kite kite) and Sages are the Priests (lots of healing, but squishy).

How can a Operative/scoundrel have the best Burstheal?

We need 2 GCDs to stack our Hot on the Target (500 Heal/3s).

Then, if we have 2 UH/TAs up, we can chain 2-4k Heal in 2 GCDs or we can cast our longer heal + Instant for the same amaount.

So if the stars align and everything Crits we can do like maximum 5k in 2 GCDs. Everything that exceeds this amount of Bursthealing will seriously cripple our energymanagement if we dont use cool head (2 min CD).

Now compare this to a Sorc/Sage who can do about the Same amount with just using his 3,5k Bubble+1,5k flashheal+Hots.

Two words ... emergency medpac. If your opinions vary, level a sorc. Also sorcs dont' have hots.

Innervate , Resurgance both have heal over time elements.

Ahh my mistake ... I thought he said flash heal + hots as two separate spells and not thinking he meant them as one spell. Specially since HOT was pluralized.

For clarification to people not in the know. The flash heal component has a hot aswell, and that is what was meant.

No offense man but you seem pretty clueless. Everything youve said in this thread is pretty much wrong. Mercs overheat under pressure while sorcs can heal all day, and op healers are garbage compared to the other two. Sorc main heal is a hot that buffs every other heal they have. Are we playing the same game? Mercs are awesome against noobs that dont cc. Pro tip, you dont have to kill the merc healer, save him for last, everything he does that is worth a damn is casted and while he will keep himself alive when he bubbles he wont be able to keep his team alive. And there is no need for a heavy armor healer with the current state of guard and taunts. Sorc shine in peels and heals. Mercs are good at solo q'ing WZs and trolling bads that dont know how to control/kill him.

And i have hero of the alliance on 3 different classes in case youre gonna try the 1500 dis again.

No offense man, but because my opinion varies, does not mean I'm clueless. I'm sure the 1000's of hours bioware spent designing the classes also means they are clueless. Or I'm sure anyone with a different opinion to you is also clueless. Also using the clueless argument while spouting false facts like: "Sorcs can heal all day" only shows who the real "clueless" person is. As great as noble sacrifice is, it won't give you a forever force if you're constantly healing.

As for your heat argument ... Vent it. That's why you have the skill. No offense man ... but try playing more than one class and not have a biased view . Test out 2 classes then compare and contrast. Your grass is greener on the other side arguments are indicative of bad players and plague to the gaming community. Be objective ... I know it's hard.

Lastly, I've aleady said we're going to run a commando healer. If your premade does not run it and you feel left out, then that's your problem not mine. If you feel a sage does a better job than you, what can I say ... it's you. Our commandos don't share the same view and often joke about why the sages are so squishie. Put it this way when rated wf's comes out, we'll see who the real OP classes are ;)

Id hate to play a warzone with you as a healer. OP healers are amazing if played right. Unfortunately it takes more than 1/2IQ to be successful. Kinda like a sent/mara dd.

Sorcs are better at everything.

I did the same thing with a commando yesterday. Me and him on one door. I tank, he heals. Everyone else on other door. We held the line. 2 vs 5. They couldn't focus me to death and they couldn't focus him to death. Neither of us died once.

Healing is OP'd in this game. Operatives/Scoundrel healing being the exception as you can actually stop their healing by interrupting Underworld Medicine (lvl 22 sawbones), which other heals depend on for consistent Upper Hand. All of them should be that way. It's a distinct disadvantage in PvP.

BH heal is great in PvE with groups, probably not so much in ops without some sorc AoE support but the burst and quick stackable healing is pretty nice. Personally I struggle in PvP with him but I think its mostly because I just solo queue up and get a trash team.

With daily'd up gear I generally hit from 2 - 5k with a the regular heal and can pop emergency scan on top of that for another 3k or so. With Kolto Shell, Kolto Missile and the blaster heals (which load up for SCG) theres actually enough minor HoT and small stacking heals floating around to keep a tank alive with very little effort outside of boss fights. Supercharged gas, pop kolto missile (adds a shield on targets while SCG is active) and throw in 0-CD Healing Scan practically spam for free.... Put it all together and know how to use it and you're a machine.

Lots of time in hard modes I have so much heat left over im throwing in extra DPS. The only time anyone really dies is if someone does something stupid or a boss insta kills someone with a one or two shot thats quicker than my 8k I can burst on. I've got enough armor to pop a personal shield and just sit there and tank if I need to, BH heals is much less squishy than sorc/sage.
