New graphics card

DigitalBalance

Recommended Posts

I just recently upgraded my PSU to 600 watts and my GPU to an nVidia 560 Ti.

I am able to run the game at max graphics, but there is a slight problem with GPU heat that is inherent in the game system itself and not a result of the card.

In space the card tends to run in the 60 to 70 C heat range, while everywhere else it starts climbing into the 80's and at times can reach close to 90 C.

The biggest heat increase seems to come during the scripted sequences and I don't really understand why.

Make sure your case is well ventilated and you should be fine.

If you are on a budget, I would look at the GTX 460. Its cheaper than the 560ti and if you have to, and most likely will have to, upgrade your psu, a gtx 460 and a new psu will be cheaper than a 560ti and a new psu.

With a i5 2500k cpu, 16gigs of Corsair 1600mhz ram and the GTX 460, I run everything on high except Shadows, which I have on low and I get about 70 - 90 fps on most planets, about 100 fps on my ship and 40 - 50 on fleet. This is with a 1920 x 1080 screen resolution.
