Animal Mount

Had a MCH in SWG-pre-nge (of course) who had all of the mountable creatures in the game. It was fun to ride the huge dinosaur-like one (forget it's name now) through town.

I hope BW restricts where mounts can be called and ridden, however. Riding a bantha on Fleet would be beyond silly.

Or a Tauntaun on Tantooine ...

Since they are cold weather animals that evolved on an ice planet, a desert planet would probably kill them in a matter of moments ..

Animal mounts are actually kind of stupid unless you are a native of a particular planet with zero plans or ability to ever leave it due to different planets having different climates. Plus, where would you keep these many animal pets? In your Faster than light Arc? That would be messy ;)

I hope if they add these mounts they are restricted by the planet of their origin ;)

Don't quote me on this but I remember reading somewhere that it was not put in because they did not program the animations and the "bob" of the running on an animal. They went with the quick and cheap "totally straight and non moving streaming" view. Note how there are simply no moving or mount animations at all in game.

Agreed to a point. I could see Tauntauns on Ilum for example. And Tauntaun on Hoth were ridden because they were hardy enough to withstand the extreme weather, whereas vehicles broke down and were unreliable.

Doesn't mean they can't restrict them to areas where they are suitable, and if you ride them from their suitable area to an unsuitable one there is a warning message like the exhaustion zones indicating the animal will die if you don't turn back or unmount.

Great idea, mounts limited by appropriate enviroment would be wonderful though I doubt it would happen; too often I see people riding in a giant landspeeder right up to the GTN terminal on fleet, they've already bypassed silly and gone straight to ludicrous. Not only that but in one of the Star Wars books there's an "animal show" on Coruscant where almost all the animals you know from the books and films are present, some contained better than others; basically there is more than one source from licensed material to show that there was interplanetary movement of large 'livestock'.

You just haven't gotten to the right planet yet if you think this.

Alderaan has a flying beast as a taxi substitute, it's a fully animated flying animal mount.

Agreed! I was disappointed to see so many Tauntauns on Hoth and yet not have them be the "taxi" for that planet.

Regarding current animal mounts,

I loved those flying manta-ray critters on Alderaan. I saw some similar types of creatures flying around on Belsavis, but alas, the taxis were all normal.

I can see how it could be tricky to implement them, as animal mounts would logically be restricted to certain environments.

I think it could work if players could get a second type of mount training that was for riding animal mounts. And at 25, 40, and 50, instead of buying speeders you'd buy a "live mount rental pass" that would work just like a speeder except it summons an animal for you to ride that is different depending on the planet you are on. And for certain areas like the fleet it could summon something small and clean . . . I'm sure they can think of something in a whole galaxy full of creatures! (though personally I don't think mounts should be allowed on the fleet anyway, but that is another thread lol)

And of course, adding them as the taxis for each planet would be great too. ^^

Alderaan's Thranta are beautiful, though they do illustrate the bobbing problem mentioned earlier- the 'riding' animation for them looks great *some* of the time, but it quite often ends up looking like the rider's bouncing up and down for no apparent reason.

Tauntauns for Hoth would be lovely, though I suspect as a general rule, animal mounts may be implemented sometime after womprats as a playable race.

I want a Tauntaun!

And it took me a LOT of effort not to write that whole sentence in caps. Oh, frak it.

I WANT A TAUNTAUN!

Please!

They're fluffy and white and cute and I want one! Their codex entry says they're real fast, so it'd be okay, right? It would! You know it. The moment I saw them on Hoth I hoped I'd get to ride one! Even their name is awesome!
