smotyn Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 people, read the entire thread 'the can we move as well' has been answered alot of times this is great step for asia/pac regions, once the DT is sorted as well i can see SWTOR becoming the main choice for mmo's in the region. personally i have no issues with outside (region) players joining the server, it will be nice to own you cause i have the low ping for a change. as for the poor players left on swiftsure/harbinger/jekk jekk. you'll recover.
Evgen Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 I too did not notice the Q&A I'm curious why they's limit the countries in Asia pacific who can have free transfers, as opposed to, I don't know, all countries in Asia Pacific? Wacky idea I know. From the wording it sounds like you need to have registered your code with an address in one of those countires. And that changing it after the fact won't work.
omgchicken Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 This is the 2nd time EA/Mythic have placed a server in Australia. Warhammer Online anyone? The servers where in Sydney, but they moved them to Singapore to save money. The singapore servers had as much latency as the American servers AND the hardware was so crap the server stuttered once every 4 seconds. I remember the night the community did a mass exodus and rerolled on the American servers leaving the Singapore servers a ghost town. Player beware, they are setting this up so that you are locked into the region. If they screw us over we will be forced to play on dodgy servers with the same lat as the American servers. Another point. What is with the inflated pricing? It is cheaper to buy an American copy and mail to Australia then buying the listed prices. Way to gouge your customers EA, you guy are totally awesome.
Acyl Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 (edited) If the servers are located in Australia, you may as well not transfer if you're playing in Singapore. Your ping will be about the same, if not worse... If the ping is the same, there's still an advantage - more players on the server during peak evening times in Singapore. I'm gonna shift a couple of alts to the new servers at least. Edited February 15, 2012 by Acyl
MonkeyBacon Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 If the launch is 1st March, why is Gametraders already selling it online and in stores?
Aussiedroid Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 Thanks for the confirmation. Could we please get a list of the server names and types so we can start coordinating with friends to choose the same server? Also, what is the 'limited' window of transfers - can this be clarified please? Are there any restrictions to the number of characters or character levels that can be transferred? Could you also advise what will happen with our hard earned Legacy XP and names? Do we need to start again or will this carry over? What will be the Australian Customer Support number that we can call? Please help. Cheers!
atikamek Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 Swtor is always better than WoW i play WoW 3yeas and when Swtor come out i unsubscribed on WoW because Swtor will kick it WoW is dying anyway....
Maxtross Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 If you do not meet the eligibility requirements for a free transfers then I am almost certain that you won't be able to transfer... because you won't be eligible. That's kinda what the word means. How do I know if I qualify for the free character transfers? To qualify for free character transfers, players must meet the following requirements by Tuesday, February 28, 2012, 5:01PM EDT, 7:01PM NZDT, 2:01PM HKT, 2:01PM SGT: You specified that your country is Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong, or Singapore during your account registration process. Redeemed an Official Game Production Registration Code on http://www.StarWarsTheOldRepublic.com Code Redemption Center. Have had or currently have entered a valid recurring payment method or redeemed a Pre-Paid Game Time Code. Only characters created on The Old Republic servers by February 28, 2012, 5:01PM EDT, 7:01PM NZDT, 2:01PM HKT, 2:01PM SGT qualify for transfers. Characters created by qualified players on a non-Asia Pacific server after the February 28th deadline will not qualify for transfers to Asia Pacific servers. We will be sending an email to all qualified players by early March with more details. Stay tuned to http://www.StarWarsTheOldRepublic.com for more information. Malaysia is not listed in those Asia Pacific countries, well i guess we're screwed then
Emeda Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 Hopefully this will bring more people into the game! It will definity take more people out of the US servers
Alcapowne Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 Malaysia is not listed in those Asia Pacific countries, well i guess we're screwed then You're from Malaysia - you should be used to it by now la
shotgun-clavy Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 im in korea but im a new zealander paying with new zealand credit card, ill be able to transfer right?
SirSlayAlot Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 First, Most people in AU/NZ already have the game. Oh so they shouldn't launch in Oceanic, is that what you are saying? More like First tool.
mmogaddict Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 im in korea but im a new zealander paying with new zealand credit card, ill be able to transfer right? If you used a New Zealand address when you registered the account then according to the FAQ, you will be entitled to a free transfer. If you used a Korean address when setting up the account you won't. It's based on account registration and not your credit card or IP.
Andyhwlau Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 First of all, question: Is the AUS region accessible if I am already a subscriber of US/EU version (without migrating our characters at the moment) I' not quite sure why they decided to make Hong Kong specifically a target in the new regional server. I'm a Hong Kong player who currently playing in The Swiftsure. And as i know, swtor is not that famous in Hong Kong (Sooooo hard to find a copy of swtor during release) and the pool of player in Hong Kong is not that big at all. Most of them are usually experienced MMO players who used to play on US servers. And rather staying on US for higher population and quality player interactions. Anyway, my point is launching a new region that includes Chinese-speaking-Asia without localization hardly attracted new group of players, pumping new bloods into servers. Language barrier is still a problem especially games like swtor that text takes up quite a large proportion of the gaming experience. Of course i appreciate a lower ping and better connection quality , and probably will also benefit current mainland China, Taiwan and Macau players. But I am just concerned about possible problem of population divergence which end up in degradation of gaming experience and loss of populations.... Btw, i heard that EA China is working on the CN version of swtor with Simplified Chinese localization, any confirms from BW/EA people ? totally Agree. If BioWare want attract most people to play SWTOR in China / Taiwan. BioWare should localize the subtitle,UI and allow Chinese input. Keep the Audio in English is ok.
Cormey Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 If the launch is 1st March, why is Gametraders already selling it online and in stores? From what I can tell from all of the Australian game retailers websites, they've pretty much cut out EA as the distributor and are already selling copies they've imported themselves.
Maxtross Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 You're from Malaysia - you should be used to it by now la By that you meant that our country is donkey *** suck?
Rebirdhk Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 So again i heard some rumors here that Taiwan is also included in the new launched Asian Pacific region, and there will actually be Traditional Chinese localized client provided. Would there be some more detail clarifications on this? Is that literally only Hong Kong players have the free character migration, or the word Hong Kong included "Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macau and mainland China"? I will be definitely looking forward to this if this is true.
midnyt Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 (edited) They should allow all players from all the countries in the Asia Pacific to transfer. It would increase the amount of players in the new servers and give us all better latency. How about countries like Taiwan, Thailand, Philippines, Malaysia, Japan, etc.? Are we all stuck with bad latencies? How about letting us transfer to the new servers as well? Edited February 15, 2012 by midnyt

I'm guessing we're not popular among EA/Bioware's list of cool Asia Pacific countries.Or we're going to have another "SWTOR: 2nd Asia Pacific launch for Taiwan,Thailand Philippines,Malaysia and Japan?" Why alienate the other countries that from what i know, has a decent MMO gaming community in there. Edited February 15, 2012 by Maxtross
AzureAngel Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 YES!!! finally in singapore...to bad i already have the game....
AzureAngel Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 By that you meant that our country is donkey *** suck? i loled so hard at this!!
xpactor Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 Hong Kong is China. In China there lives 1 400 000 000 people (yes 1.4 BILLION people). This is good news for TOR:rolleyes: there will be a separate launch for china and korea according to various reports.
Maxtross Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 (edited) EA should include Gilligan's Island in their launch list. Edited February 15, 2012 by Maxtross
mArchangel Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 As found on the news bulletin: I am in a guild and qualify for the character transfers. Will my entire guild be able to be transferred to an Asia Pacific server as a part of this program? No, guild transfers are not possible as a part of this program. If your guild would like to continue playing together as a guild with existing characters, each member of the guild must qualify for the character transfer and request that their character(s) be transferred to the same Asia Pacific server as other members of the guild. Once your characters have been transferred to their new Asia Pacific server, you will need to reform your guild. THIS IS UTTER BS AND KILLS IT FOR ME! I STAY WHERE I AM! OUTRAGEOUS REALLY!
