Khallrik Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 Round-trip delay from Singapore to Melbourne goes via Perth for Singapore (if not Asia). This means that that server latency from Singapore/HK to Melbourne is the SAME (~200ms) as it is to the US West Coast. Needless to say, I hope people in Singapore/HK do traceroutes to the new server IPs before they transfer their characters. ... Trace complete. Thanks for the tracerts, Jason. I never noticed Singnet named their servers after alcoholic drinks til now, however... and I've done tracerts before.

Figured it would be gold coast, since its more central to the intended areas of service.
mmogaddict Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 Will there be an RP server? As per the FAQ: http://www.swtor.com/info/faq/game#q400115 What server types will be available for the Asia Pacific Launch? These server types will be available at launch: Player-vs-Environment (PVE), Player-vs-Player (PVP), and Role Playing (RP-PVE). To learn more about these server types, see General Questions.
Fafryd Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 Excellent news. It be great to have low ping from Australia. 250ms is a long time.
Wolfenhausen Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 Needless to say, I hope people in Singapore/HK do traceroutes to the new server IPs before they transfer their characters. Regardless of the ping times, if the scheduled restarts are made outside of peak times for this APJ server farms, that alone is enough to warrant the transfer.
mmogaddict Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 Regardless of the ping times, if the scheduled restarts are made outside of peak times for this APJ server farms, that alone is enough to warrant the transfer. From earlier in this thread: From the Games On Net Q & A http://games.on.net/article/14905/SWTOR_Australian_Launch_Details_We_Speak_to_BioWare_About_All_Thing_Oz What plans are in place for maintenance routines on the Australian servers? Will they follow the same downtime patterns as the US and European servers? Grant: Any game updates or general maintenance will be performed across all worldwide locations simultaneously. Minimizing service downtime is something that we take very seriously and we will continue to evaluate the timing of all of our maintenance windows to ensure that they are performed at times that will impact the fewest players possible. Our goal is to continue to offer the same quality and reliability as we have up to this point.
Miyakayim Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 With Asia and Oceania out of the way, you have nowhere to go but Latin America! So shut up and take our pesos!
IonBick Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 You expected to be able to xfer to servers BEFORE they are up and running? And early March can easily mean March 2nd. You would of been better off asking; Q. When are xfers going to be active? That would be really cool for any of us. Haven't been in NZ for many years, but so glad they will have more of what we aleady have. If I see ya online, I will be more than happy to help ya out! <>< Bick

Acyl Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 (edited) Despite you trying to spin what I said to make me sound like some ignorant racist it's a legitimate concern that BioWare needs to address. Dire-Wolf: I don't think you're being racist, and you do raise a valid concern. But think about this:- SWTOR is launching in the Asia-Pacific, but they're not translating the game into Chinese and Korean. They're not recording new voices. For now, SWTOR is only available in English, French and German. I think you can safely assume that for the time being, all Asian SWTOR players speak English. Maybe not perfect English, but c'mon, let's be frank - how many gamers type with perfect grammar and spelling anyway? Edited February 15, 2012 by Acyl
Torquist Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 (edited) I'm scared. The pessimist in me seems to think something will go wrong with this launch. A case of be careful what you wish for. e.g. Higher risk of the new server declining to low pop than if this wasn't made availableWanting to transfer my characters but not being able toBeing no better off with latency or maintenance times If any one of these 3 things happen I'll be peeved. If none of these things happen, I'll praise Bioware for being awesome dudes!! Edited February 15, 2012 by Torquist
Maxtross Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 So if you're country not is the Bioware list qualify as Asia Pacific, will you be eligible for free character transfer?
LeijkoStarfall Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 (edited) Hong Kong is China. In China there lives 1 400 000 000 people (yes 1.4 BILLION people). This is good news for TOR:rolleyes: Edited February 15, 2012 by LeijkoStarfall
mmogaddict Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 So if you're country not is the Bioware list qualify as Asia Pacific, will you be eligible for free character transfer? What will happen with the legacy names? Which legacy name will be carried over or will I have to pick a new legacy name once I merge all my characters. Also if I create a new character on day one of the launch will they inherant the legacy name of one of my characters i merge into the server?
SpitERI Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 Any chance we could find out more about server maintenance times for the Asia/Pacific servers? It's gonna blow chunks if it's done at the same time as the US and/or EU servers. Server maintenance during off-peak local times please!

longadin Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 (edited) If the servers are located in Australia, you may as well not transfer if you're playing in Singapore. Your ping will be about the same, if not worse as I believe our packets seems to route through the US first before heading downwards. Did a speedtest last night and had around 385ms latency while I got 185 from a west coast server. And for the dude who was asking if we speak English in Singapore, here's a tip--whose, not whos. Ezharon Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 (edited) Dear Bioware - Please, please give transfer eligibility to people with accounts registered in non-Oceanic locations. Many of us Aussies registered as being in the USA to try and get in the beta or due to people being worried about being locked out for being in the red zone. In addition, many of us have American friends and guildies who operate on Oceanic times (eg shift workers) so they've joined Oceanic guilds. Even if you don't want to open up transfers to all and sundry, can you please at least extend the "free transfers" option to people who are currently in a guild with Oceanic players? That way our American friends can move with us, if they want, and those of us who registered as being from the USA won't be forced to watch as our friends transfer off. Please. Otherwise you're going to fracture a lot of guilds, and cause a lot of unnecessary ill-will and unhappiness. And some of us live on oceanian islands such as New Caledonia (which is French so register as French) or Guam (and register as USA), or Fidji, etc. We really need to be able to transfer too. Nomatron Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 I'd also like to know exactly where the servers are going to be! The servers will be placed in the desert... but to find them you'll have to decipher a series of clues each more fiendish than the last....
