What exactly is 'PUSHBACK'?

I see that various skills in all trees affect 'pushback'. What exactly is 'pushback'?

Thanx in advance,

Push back happens when you are taking damage while pulling off an ability that takes time to execute. Next time you are playing, look at your "cast" bar when you execute a timed ability like healing.

You will notice as you take damage, that cast bar will "push back" to the starting point as you get interrupted. Putting skill points in certain abilities on your skill tree will reduce the amount that bar "pushes" back while taking damage, allowing you to execute your ability more quickly while taking damage.

If you are casting a spell and get hit the damage done to you it increases the casting time on your spell.

And if you are doing a channelled ability when you get hit your casting bar races closer to completion ... meaning you get less effect than if it had lasted for the full duration.
