jordanph
Hello I recommend to Bioware to improve space combat they should copy eve. Yes people don't like copying but Eve is an exception since it's so beautiful and flawless. I understand that eve was quite confusing and complex which is therefore why if they were to take the good points from the space in eve they should only change the confusing points of training skills to equip more things etc. Thank you. BobaTed
...maybe I didn't get into EvE combat enough, but wasn't it basically orbiting your target, autofiring your weapons, and flying off when your armor started getting low?
truedark
No. Not like EVE. I quit EVE so I could stop making spreadsheets.

Star Trek Online also had good space combat, if they can do something similar to EVE or Star Trek Online i'm sure that would bring in lots of new players, i have friends that said they would sub if it had space combat. Idali
SWG space combat + capital ships. Or STO space combat - all the stuns disables, roots and holds.
Hamsterkill
So you want them to incorporate the mechanics of another entire MMO into their existing MMO? You'll have to be willing to stick around for 5-10 years because that ain't happening *any* time soon.
ForceCowboy
^This EvE combat is one of the most boring things ever devised by man. Only to those who never got above a million skill points and quit. EVE combat is actually one of the most exhilarating things I've ever engaged in, but then again, I go into combat with two 100+ million SP characters at the same time on dual monitors. lol
Ituhata
Copy the most uninspiring and boring combat system ever created? Please, no. There is a reason most eve videos are sped up, because people would stop watching after 15 seconds and only seeing 5 shots fired on either side. Too bad Jumpgate Evolution went sour, that looked like it was going to be fun and the kind of space combat I wanna be a part of: pure chaos, fire criss-crossing everywhere. Madness. HanzoV
I'm fine with the Star Fox-esque/Tunnel shooter, for now, but if/when they do a Space Combat upgrade, they need to look at the X-Wing v. TIE Fighter games. Besides, if they were to copy something, might as well copy a LucasArts game.

TItanten
EVE combat would not work. It's not even the same style as Star Wars. Neither is STO's combat. EVE combat is the most realistic, but it's rather dull (to the vast, vast majority of people). Star Trek combat is like WW1 naval combat. Big ships attacking in close range. Cloaked vessels acting as submarines. It's slower, has more damage types, and has more pseudo-science than Star Wars. Star Wars space combat is more like a WW2 naval battle. You have the large capital ships duking it out while fighters and bombers are overhead ready to do massive damage to the fleet. The fighters are dogfighting to the backdrop of these big battleships blasting each other to bits, but the fighters/bombers are the ones that do the real damage in the end. It's fast paced, hectic, totally unrealistic, and has the physics and science of a dogfighting arcade game. EvE combat would fly completly in the face of anything we've seen in Star Wars. These aren't ships that orbit at 100km these are big *** ships that get 100 feet away from each other and broadside. Fighters making straffing runs on turret emplacements at a range where crashing is viable. Star Trek wouldn't be close either. The heroes in Star Wars aren't the commanders of the battleships, it's the ace pilots who destroy the commanders in their battleships. As much as I love STO's combat, a sailing ship battle simulator is not what Star Wars is about. Port and Starboard shields are not something a fighter jock needs to worry about. If you want a more involved space game, at least ask for one that fits the Star Wars lore. X-Wing vs TIE fighter or SWG's Jump to Lightspeed. Those were great and captured the feel of Fighter Pilot > Everything that Star Wars and Lucas' loves.
xNethrilx
After playing Eve for 6 months, I realized a few things. It was a dismal game. It's combat was TERRIBLE. At a certain point, all skill was removed and it simply became a battle of tech / skills. Maybe a combat system more similar to Freelancer (old game, I know) could work well. It still allows a level of skill to be entered into the equation, but was a simplistic style of combat.
BrotardNosef
I'd be happy with Star Wars: Battlefront style combat, which is basically what we have now but w/o being on the train track. Dem space missions where fun.
Ituhata
This ^^^ And this ^^^ I have 12 million SP and I still think its boring. Unless you think firing artillery rounds every 15 seconds - 30 seconds, or Missiles every 7-15 seconds is exhilarating. Granted pulse lasers, autocannons & blasters are faster, but usually ineffective if you can't get in close. 90% of the time you're getting excited about shooting at red and orange squares. As far as EvE being the most realistic. I dunno, current military technology puts the fire rate of well....anything in eve.....to shame. ^ copy of the phalanx missile defense system. Sould try googling some on the other US military tech, there are planes that can poop missiles like it ate picante hot burritos. In the future.....ugh, not so much. I have 80 mil SP, and I find combat in EVE the most fun thing ever.... as long as no-one makes me do PVE. PVE in EVE is bad. Oh so very bad... Ed: And yes, this game doesn't need eve combat, it needs X vs TIE combat. If we get that, I'll delete my eve Edited February 2, 2012 by Truga
Raximillian
EVE combat is decided well before the ships engage. It's rock/paper/scissors with configurable rocks, papers and scissors. I liked setting up ships en EVE, and using weird cofigs, but it all bore down to who can damage the other faster than they can repair... Which is pretty much what we do in TOR... Gah... All games are pretty much the same EVE is not bad, it's just a different type of game, and not so action based. As others have mentioned, I would prefer STO style combat. I played STO for a while, and of the few good things it had, space combat was one of them. Edited February 2, 2012 by Raximillian
