I like it at times, find it to be a change of pace, but by no means do I make it out to be the most important aspect of a game. But I understand it's importance so the factions can interact, and there is little of that now in SWTOR. So the idea is to create a new planet, with whatever storyline you want. These ideas especially come from WAR, which the open PVP was a blast, and it seems like a perfect fit here for obvious reasons. The Planet : There would be two sides of course, but it should be a massive zone, with a lot of uneven terrain for sneak attacks. There would be two main bases of course, that wouldn't be conquerable for both factions, maybe beat up or something, but you wouldn't be able to spawn camp. After that, have 3-5 villages, where I think 5 might be better than three for strategy purposes. The Villages : Each village would have to be conquered, this could be done by killing a commander, or fighting your way through and grabbing an item or setting a charge, whatever method you want to use. Your forces take the village and defend it. But, then I suggest adding a system to upgrade each village. Upgrades : Upgrades could be done pretty simply, to allow anyone at any time to upgrade the defenses of each village. More troops, more powerful commander, turrets ect. You could do this by having special supplies dropped on the planet, or straight up credits. It would give people a reason to be on the planet, and help with the defense even if no one is around to help take another village. War : In this new PVP planet, I'm also thinking of adding NPC troops that would actually battle each other at certain times. Possibly even adding tactics where people who are at the villages could direct the troops to attack, and not just a line of people fighting. A bit more interactive and functional. It would feel more like a war than just fighting other factions. Reward System : I would do this differently than a lot of games did it. You wouldn't unlock stores depending on how many villages/territories you had, rather you would get different commendations, the stores would always be there. Quests : Obviously daily and weekly quests would be involved which would give you different commendations. There should also be some epic quests in the zone, something very tough with a nice reward at the end, possibly to the point where you would need a group to finish it. Balance in the Force : There are obvious balance issues in PVP and in general in SWTOR, so there are a few ways to get around this. 1. Have way to control the skies, ie, control how many people on each faction can land on the planet, not the best idea, but it could work. 2. Use something like tenacity, with the NPC's I suggested earlier, it would be easy to tweak them to make up for some imbalance. Those are my general ideas, and it makes me want to sit down and draw up a map, and figure out an exact system. Unfortunately, I have to work. Boo.
