why no dmg/healing reports?

Why is there no dps or healing reports in the game?

It would be nice to have for a multitude of reasons.

These reasons include:

1) Self Improvement - You can personally compare different rotations and different specs and how they have an effect on your damage output.

2) Itemization - You can test stacking different levels of power / crit / haste / accuracy and see what they do to your damage. No more just randomly picking stats and hoping that they are optimal for your class and spec.

3) Wiping on fights - You can kick out the person not pulling their weight or at least try to help them improve their game play instead of wiping over and over to an enrage timer and having no idea who is responsible since there is no way to judge damage when you have like 10 dps in a 16man op group.

4) People do not get judged on gear - As it stands now because lack of a damage report, people are solely judged on the gear they are wearing rather than their skills and performance.

I never understood why certain people reject the meter idea. Is it just because they want to go on auto-follow during trash in dungeons? Is it because they want to be carried to their gear? Is it because they are very sensitive and feel bad irl when they are called out over the internet about their damage? Is it because they truly bring such bad damage that they fear they will never be allowed in a dungeon or raid group once meters come? Is it because they hate any sort of competition? Please fill me in thanks.

Also if anybody else has any other upsides to adding damage reports that I have missed please post them, thanks!

Gonna take a shot at this point here, since even with DPS and Healing meters in WoW, performance was never the consideration, only your iPeen(iLvl/Gear Score) when grouping.

There. Fixed that for ya! :p

Now as to why not? Well maybe the devs don't think it's important to just now start spread-sheeting every log in order to configure/macro everything. Maybe they want to keep the harassment potential of newer players to a minimum. Maybe they want the game and game balance to flesh itself out some more before the min-maxing crowd takes over.

In any case those are my rhetorical answers to your rhetorical question. :D

DPS meters are only good for good players. Crappy players will think they are good just because they have high dps and it becomes a contest who can top the charts.

Yes, high dps is good, but a lot of people become so obsessed with 'winning' the dps race that they skip other practical skills such as interrupting or cc'ing simply because it takes away time they could dish out their precious dmg instead.

A good dps know when it's better to do less dmg, instead of always trying to max it.

A good dps fill more roles than just dmg, but those things are often hard to meassure using meters.

A player may have potential to be highest dps in the group, but simply because he keep stunnlocking mobs attacking the healer, CC'ing unexpected adds or interrupting the casters, it will 'look' like he is crappy, even though he pulled more than his own weight.

So in a way it's a two edged sword. I'm all for dps meters, but only in the hands of those who know how to play.

The worst part about this is that you get to HM and NM ops, and every boss has a hard enrage timer. If you hit the enrage timer you have no tools for determining performance or improvement. You know you failed and died, but you have no idea why. Horrible design.

Or the ones smart enough that they can see what's happening in a game perfectly well without them....
Calling bullsh*t on this.

You can't even see the Scrolling Combat Text for another player; theres NO WAY you are aware of the same amount of information that is captured in a parse, nor could you relay it in a manner conducive to raid progression.

Maybe my post will sound cynical, but it's the truth. So, it's the same reason the combat log is not accessible yet.

1. So as to not get swarmed by evidence showing how OP some classes are.

2. So as casuals feel hardcore, bad players feel decent, etc.

3. So as to not get swarmed by bug reports.

4. .... more ....

After all, they don't even answer to our tickets atm, in a satisfactory way, think how many more tickets would exist, if we had access to the combat log.

Oh, that's pretty easy.

When you hire someone for your group, would it be heroic or raid, doesn't matter, you do expect a member to be an asset for your team, right?

Tank must be tough enough and able to generate threat, right?

Healer must be smart enough to rotate heals between tank and the rest of the group and overall good enough to out-heal damage, right?

DPS must be agile enough to maintain rotation, apply interrupts and crowd-control, right?

What would you do if one of your group members can't do their job? It would be wise to kick him/her out and very kind of you if you take time to explain why.

Those who actively reject meter idea just kinda used to play, to watch TV, to talk on the phone and to w...k at the same time. And they are just afraid of being kicked.

Those who say that they're perfect without meters, tracking tools, etc, just liars.

A dps meter would be quite different than a combat log. Obviously only dpsing against a boss that requires interrupts to defeat is not a great plan. A combat log would allow you to view who was doing what, and if they are using their interrupts correctly or not, it is not just to show how much dps someone is doing.

That is a good point to clarify. Without addon support, a damage log would be much less useful...

LOOK..... I guess I'll say that once more, it has been at least 4 years without me saying that.

Damage Log on its own MEANS nothing. You can be no1 in the damage meter, but still a sh.it player. Interrupts and A LOT more count for PvE. ALL KNOW THAT, I know, or at least they SHOULD. Ofc that doesn't mean that being no1 in damage meter means that you neglected everything else and that you are a selfish mother...

It's funny to see, FOR YEARS NOW, clueless people linking damage meters to prove they are good LOL. Same thing with PvP... in PvP, being first in dmg means even LESS things than what means in PvE. At least in PvE, the huge majority of dmg is USEFULL dmg. While in PvP, you can EASILY have HUGE percentage of silly, AoE, dmg that gets ytou high on charts, but is NOT useful dmg.

So, having no dmg meters in PvE is fine imo. The advantage of not have to deal with people who think that their skill is shown through their damage done (lol, srsly lol) outweighs the disadvantages imo.
