Q: Is it okay to RP-Ninja Loot?

Given your character is dark side, should one be able to steal items? You would kill story characters, and rob people blind. You would also rob a player from their chest if you were dark.

Edit: yes this assumes the player is RPing on an RP server..

Edit 2: I did not do this, nor do I plan on doing this. I am a victim of an RP Ninja, and was curious how legitimate this is on RP server, this being my first RP server.

Unless you've worked this out beforehand with the people you're playing with and they're fine with it OOC, no it isn't.

doesn't working this out in OOC completely defeat the purpose.. I'm not saying he's going to be popular, but he's able to make his own rep for himself.

i follow your logic and i personally dont have a HUGE problem with it

however that said you may have issues finding groups if you do it too often

there are some things that should be a little more important then RP.... such as not being a dick to other players.... however your not going to jail for Ninja looting, so make your own choices....

fits with RP, but still not cool

No, it's not ok. Just because you're on the Darkside doesn't mean there are no rules or laws. If anything there are MORE rules and laws on the Darkside, and repercussions for breaking them are more severe.

But go ahead, ninja loot, see how often you'll get groups if you do that. It's only loot to me, and chances are it's probably not even something that i could use, but if i encountered a ninja looter, i would definitely never group with them again. And i would make sure that others know of what you've done as well.

Not in the slightest. RP can have any amount of OOC background stuff going on. This is in regards to game mechanics and as such an OOC conversation should precede it. Not doing so is just attempting to use RP as an excuse. RPers wont have their characters hate yours, they will simply hate you OOC and not play OR RP with you.

Given your character is dark side, should one be able to fail to heal certain teammates at crucial mid-operation moments? Should one perhaps break all the holds in a crucial boss-fight, ensuring a team wipe? Sure, it would be suicidal. But if one is roleplaying an insane dark side character....

No. It would be considered Harassment under the Rules of Conduct as it would "consists of misuse and/or abuse of game mechanics and verbal harassment with the intention of distressing and offending other players."

You might get away with it once but if you kept doing it you would most likely get some form of administrative action levelled against you.

"The key to determining whether the mechanic is being misused or abused is to determine "intent." Reported incidents are not considered harassment until it is determined by the SWTOR CS that it was done to intentionally to cause distress or to offend other players."

So no, it may not be.

This was a trick troll question right? OK, I'll play along. I say yes under the following conditions:

1) I must be able to PvP flag your character and kill it the moment you succeed

2) when you die I must be able to loot you to get it back, and

3) once the legacy system is in place my character must be allowed to go after your character's entire family tree.

That won't ever happen. So in other words, not only no - but hell no.

Please do not say this is ok on an RP server, because it is NOT. Coming from a Roleplayer, and a MMO Veteran, Ninja looting is NEVER ok regardless of any RP justification. It is bad form and I personally would immediately ignore, and warn the community of any such thief.

I would bask in the notoriety. :jawa_evil:

I'm new to mmos, what do you mean by ninja looting? I'm kinda worried I may have done it without realising...

Its where you steal loot belonging to someone else, or without the others consent. Examples would be stealing a chest that someone has just cleared mods to get to, taking an item while a group is discussing who should get the loot, or otherwise cheating a person out of loot. Highly frowned upon in MMO's if you couldn't tell by responses...
