Hi all,

I've levelled IA to level 27. But am struggling to get gorups. you see there are never any tanks available. Its a nightmare.

So i'm going to roll a tank. So the question is this.

Which tank is the simplest to play? I will be on the Empire side. I'm not looking for easy mode ive just not tanked before so am looking to make it as easy as i can.

Thanks :)

Rundown, in my opinion, is this:

Powertech - Great threat, but the heat mechanic can be punishing if you do too much too fast.

Assassin - Great fun until you're deep in the tree, at which point the rotation is horribly boring.

Juggernaut - Most populated tank class, though who knows how many of them actually tank. They have a very forgiving resource mechanic that has unlimited longevity, but many people complain about how much burst damage they take.

I've played them all to at least 25. Assassin is nearly 40, Jugg/Guardian is in the 30s.

Do not roll class you do not like just because it is "needed". Never leads to something good. And there are very few IA in a game right now(speaking of lvl 50). So when you finish leveling, and class stacking will play a role you will be at a huge advantage, think about it.

what about rolling a DPS Sorc or Sage? You do good DPS and you can heal, groups love you. Also they are easly classes to play. You can also solo some 2+ heroics.

Powertechs are pretty fun to learn tanking with and are the rarest meat shields Imp side if you want that nice snow flake feeling. You can level as a shieldtech and still be a punishing presence in PVP.

Assassin tanks are very novel and really fun once you get used to them. They're a melee/caster hybrid just like Death Knights from WoW. They get stealth, a vanish aggro drop, and a crowd control which makes leveling with them really simple since they rarely have to put up with the headache of fighting Two strong/elites at once.

Juggernauts are for people who like to drive stick. They're the most complicated tanks to use, but once you really get going with them, they're pretty addictive. If you're coming from BC era playing, you'll love them. If you're WOTLK through Cata, avoid-avoid-avoid, you won't like them.

Edited to more accurately reflect my own opinion. So, pretty much ^that^.

If you find yourself PvP'ing a lot you might want to weigh that in as well. As far as PvP goes, Warzone wise, 2 out of the 3 Warzone maps we have can be won solely on the backs of Assassins/Shadows because of their mobility (i.e. Huttball and Voidstar). The more Assassins/Shadows you have the odds of you winning rises exponentially.

Food for thought.

As a tank, I hate most DPS spec's that think they can heal. Especially when they join a group as the healer. F'n pisses me off.

That said, yes, an experienced DPS Sorc/Sage can be helpful in a disorganised PUG with a still-learning healer.
