Anesos Posted January 28, 2012 Posted January 28, 2012 Two things keep rattling around in my head... 1) "People just want to shoot lightning" as noted many times on many forums, and 2) Lightning is a Dark Side ability in the movies at least. It's not an empire ability, it's a dark side ability. Jedi Consular is already the mirror class of Sith Inquisitor. Both have (almost?) exactly the same abilities, but with different names, graphics, and animations. And let's face it, "people just want to shoot lightning", not toss rocks at enemies. So if we have mirror classes, why aren't the powers tied to Light / Dark Side instead of Republic / Empire? Rolled an Inquisitor and took all the light side options? Why would you still be "evil" / dark side and shooting lightning out of your hands? Dark side consular? Darn right! I dabble with the dark side of the force and can now shoot lightning instead of tossing rocks around! This gives both Republic and Empire the option for lightning casters and makes light/dark side choices actually mean something! Of course it should be expanded for other classes too, but let's face it... "people just want to shoot lightning!" tl;dr: Abilities and talent trees should be tied to Light / Dark side, not Empire / Republic faction!
MarkusAtticus Posted January 28, 2012 Posted January 28, 2012 (edited) agreed could get better abilities the higher up the dark side/light side you are Edited January 28, 2012 by MarkusAtticus
HiSaZuL Posted January 28, 2012 Posted January 28, 2012 because my inquisitors "light side option" was to say im sorry before i electricuted a guy to death and blew up his precious village?
BlestSolis Posted January 28, 2012 Posted January 28, 2012 Makes sense..... Never thought about it though. If im a good sith..can i throw rocks? But then again I guess being a good sith isnt being a jedi. Youre still a sith using hate and etc for power.
sosolidshoe Posted January 28, 2012 Posted January 28, 2012 I like it. With the mirroring system, most abilities and weapons in the class pairs are carbon copies anyway, the only difference being the names and animations, and linking force powers to alignment makes far more sense. It might even provide a benefit for being Gray. In addition, I think it would be good if they opened up weapon selection. Obviously only force users should get lightsabers, but there's no good reason a Vanguard can't use a pistol, a Powertech can't use a rifle, or a Sorceror can't use a saberstaff. If necessary to maintain balance, normalize weapon damage completely, so it's a matter of taste.
Brickabrack Posted January 28, 2012 Posted January 28, 2012 Or they could get creative and allow jedi to start throwing other players instead of rocks. Fastball Special anyone?
Goretzu Posted January 28, 2012 Posted January 28, 2012 It sounds silly, but you're probably right. Force lightening Rebulic side would probably boost pops. Really I don't know why they didn't tie some abilities (or the visuals that went with them) to dark/light side alignement.
Outcry_Spite Posted January 28, 2012 Posted January 28, 2012 No, its the allure of the dark side, I think. It's the story. You can't blame the faction imbalance on lightning, or force choke. It's wanting to be apart of that group, to be like vader rather then luke. Everyone I've talked to just says the dark sides cooler. They don't elaborate, but its just more sexy, more forbidden. They needed to do something like that to republic, rather then the bland vanilla state they're sitting in now. Just my 2 cents.
SeteshXLII Posted January 28, 2012 Posted January 28, 2012 Yet they give Trooper multiple lightning attacks and we don't even want them because seriously, guns don't shoot lightning, they shoot bullets.
crzymnky Posted January 28, 2012 Posted January 28, 2012 I completely agree on the light/dark side affection more then simply physical appearance of your toon. If i could be my sage and shoot lightning, i would delete my inquisitor in half a heart beat. Sure the story was alot of fun back in beta when i played my inquisitor alot, now i just cant stay on for more then 30 minutes because playing as the empire is boring for me. Im kinda in a toss up about the weapon specialization though, i would love to use a staff saber as my sage, but that gets ride of alot of reason for AC and picking it to play that weapon. If you got a guardian who could dual wield, sentinels would become pointless. Or even Vangaurd using assault cannons. The only way i could see this being useful is if you picked an AC that got a passive bonus from using that type of weapon.
