Hi, so im rolling a Sith Inquisitor as my alt and in the 10 minutes i played with it i already love it. Problem is when i get to level 10 i don't know what way to go, i know sorc is heal/dps and assassin is tank/dps and my main is a powertech so maybe going for sorc would provide a different experience. But how are both adv classes fairing at the moment is one played alot more than the other does one have more pros than cons? Which one has more dps and which one is better in 1v1 situations? Thanks for any hints tips and advice you give me, its greatly appreciated, Thanks :)

From what I see on my server, Sorc outnumbers Assassin by almost 2:1. They are a very popular class.

I'm only level 33 but I often hear Assassin alts with Sorc mains complaining about how much harder boss fights are on certain quests.

I think it really comes down to whether you want to be up-close and personal or ranged, then whether you want to tank or heal. I tried several ranged classes but just couldn't get into them. So I picked Assassin and really like the melee style.

Problem I'm hearing now is that end game melee is a pain in the *** (lots of jousting). So I may regret it. But I don't think I'll be playing end-game that long anyway -- so I just may enjoy the ride to 50 and then start an alt.

I went with Assassin.

From what I gather, Sorcerers do indeed have an easier time with elites than Assassins, mostly because Sorcerers get a heal or two, whereas the best Assassins get are a a couple of small self-heal procs. Thus, Sorcerers can do the following:

1.) Point Khem Val at enemy.

2.) Alternate between zapping enemy and tossing heals at Khem.

3.) Loot enemy corpse.

Assassins, on the other hand, are in a DPS race with everything we fight. We have to burn them faster than they burn us, and sometimes one missed interrupt is all it takes to swing the fight in their favor (at least until we get Talos).

The reason I ended up going Assassin was that, when I first got this game, I had initially planned on going Sorcerer...but then I found how much fun it was to hit stuff with our starting area kendo stick, and that the thought of chain-casting Force Lightning seemed kinda dull.

Then I found that Willpower does not boost Sorcerer melee capability. This means that your lightsaber - the iconic weapon of Star Wars, the blade of superheated plasma in an energy containment field, the deadly melee weapon that could cut through nearly anything - was basically nothing more than a glorified glow stick.

Also, Assassins get stealth, which is great for when you want to get to a quest objective but don't feel like fighting all the trash mobs between it and you. Just stealth past them.

Assassins are great because they're a great hybrid of lightsaber combat and Force powers. You'll find yourself using both as part of your standard priority systems in fights.
