Logged on only to retire MMOs

Many moons ago I stepped into the MMO experience with W.oW. I was completely enamored by its exploration and world PvP. I was hoping with this game I would get the same experience but my hopes were too high. So I logged on my main which is 44 and didn't want to play him so I logged on my alt 24 and realized I didn't want to play him either. I suddenly realized I don't really want to play MMO's anymore, if there was an MMO that was going revive me I thought it would be this one.

So now im patching SC2 and contemplating playing a match of League of Legends. Anyone else having this same experience?

Sort of.

When I log it this game reminds me so much of WoW so things can feel stale since its pretty much the same old grind with a different world. The story is engaging but it can be difficult to get sucked in so I either play a lot or don't.

Pretty burned out myself. It feels more like a job than entertainment. I thought the setting would help hold my attention, but it isn't.

This game doesn't even feel like an MMO to me. It feels like a singleplayer game and I'm not paying a monthly subscription for that. I'll just go back to playing BF3.

MMO burnout isn't uncommon. Go play some other games for a while. I take regular breaks from MMOs so that there is always a kind of freshness in them for me. I've been around these games a long time, I doubt I would still be playing them if I had not taken breaks, I would be totally bored with the whole genre I think.

There's just no challenge (and other things) so it gets dull.

Think of the games you are about to play - SC2 or LoL.

I've played them both and they are both very exciting!!

You're in for a half hour to hour of heart pounding excitement as you battle your enemy.

SWTOR? No heart pounding excitement.

I think there's a lot of people in the same boat as you. I've seen a lot of forum posts from people angry or disappointed about this game and in the same post they talk about playing MMOs for the last 7 years and being bored with them and burnt out or how they were tired of WoW and wanted this game to replace WoW for them. The only other one I've played is CoH and after a month or two, I would un-sub and take a year off from it because I got burnt out that quickly on it...and then re-sub for a month or two...rinse and repeat. If people thought TOR would magically cure all that burnout from years of MMO play, that's just highly unlikely that TOR or any other game will do that. Who knows though, maybe if you take some time off from MMOs then you'll have some renewed energy to get back into it.

Normally I burn out on MMOs in a week to two weeks. I've played a ****ton of MMOs, I used to have a list of 14 major MMOs that I quit after a week to a month. Suprisingly I have not burned out on SWTOR yet, I don't play it as much as I did at first but I still play it the majority of the time.

You see that Bioware! Just how do you like that, not only does this guy not want to play your broken game, you made him completely sick of the entire genre!!

I hope you're happy Bioware!!! I hope all the money you saved outsourcing this games development helps you rest at night you greedy ungaming genre-ruining FRAUDS!!!!!

This is my first MMO in almost 2 years. I had to drop them because I was suffering severe burnout. (try building and selling chars in Wow, takes all the fun out of it. Especially after the 12th one....)

That break has allowed me to enjoy this MMO a lot. I honestly had gotten to the point where I just didn't want to game at all anymore and as a lifelong gamer it kind of shocked me. I took time away from gaming in general and focused on my life. I got married, got a nicer place and one day just fell right back into gaming like I'd never left.

Take a break, it won't hurt you and you'll enjoy all games more after not having played awhile. Remember that you play games for fun, not just to play games...

May 1st Tera.... I think all the WOW refugee's who are looking for that same sense of wonderment and exploration will finally have a new game to play. SWTOR is far from it that for sure.

Tera uses a targetting system similar to first person shooters. Another screaming departure from classic mmorpgs. If I have a beer in one hand there's no way I'm gonna bother to strafe and target my enemy. I'll leave that to the pre-teens looking for a quick rush.

Tera's been out for over a year in Korea and Japan. It bombed on both those geos. The only thing that will get brainwashed WOW players to quit playing WOW is when they shut the servers down.

Greetings,

We are closing this thread, although we appreciate you taking the time to express your thoughts, a discussion on MMO burnout is not specific enough about any content regarding Star Wars™: The Old Republic™. The thread is also beginning to discuss other games outside of Star Wars™: The Old Republic™ and thus is deemed off-topic on these forums.

We encourage you to continue posting about Star Wars™: The Old Republic™ and its contents when posting on the forums.
