PvP Junky debating between Guardian and Commando

Recommended Posts

So I am a PvP junky and an Alt-aholic. I currently have:

31 Guardian

29 Assassin

28 Marauder

29 Mercenary

23 Juggernaut

19 Scoundrel

10 Sorc

10 Commando

I love my Guardian and currently consider it my main. However after reading up A LOT on how things are panning out at 50 in Ilum and Warzones I am wondering if it is even a good idea to continue leveling the Jedi. Especially for PvP.

I do pretty well on my Guardian thanks to my razer naga however I do know for 100% certanity that the commando will level faster and have the advantage in PvP due to range.

What are your guys thoughts?

After reading a lot of threads about which class is better, which class is most feared, etc., and seeing how classes perform in the hundreds of warzone matches I've played, I'm now convinced that any of the SWTOR classes can shine in PvP if you play them right. I'd stick to the one that has the playstyle you like the most, i.e., range vs. melee, dps vs. tanking vs. healing, etc.

So.....you're making an assumption that commando's have some sort of advantage in pvp?

lolololol

grav round....grav round....grav-kicked. you just died.

They do great dmg, but put any halfway decent player on them, and they're pretty much dead. or at least completely ineffective.

Guardians basically act like jerks. They take forever to kill, even with a couple people on them. It's they're job to lock up nodes, interrupt heals, and generally be as annoying as possible to the other team.

For some reason, people just can't seem to help trying to kill them, even though it takes really long.

Funniest thing is that marauders....a class that a tank seems a natural counter to, can't seem to help but pick a fight with them.

Granted, most marauders and sentinels I've seen probably need to wear a helmet at dinner to avoid hurting themselves.

Guardian is a lot less self sufficient. If you aren't queueing with buddies/healers a lot, it's kind of a wasted class. You can do alright, but the class just doesn't work like it's supposed to without healers in the mix.

That's the thing that turns me off for sentinel/guardians. They have zero self sufficiency.

If you queue solo or plan to do that a lot I highly suggest you pick either commando or sage (more so sage) you get a lot more self sufficiency to get things done.

please learn to play (read: use your 98347 knockbacks, reactive shield, heals, spec correctly) before complaining. Or reroll sage.

I would go with your commando right now. I got my Guardian to 60 before they changed Ilum and I still really enjoy it, but I am playing something else until some issues are resolved.

With low framerate and zerg in Ilum its very hard to be effective in Ilum when you are undermanned against a much bigger imperial force.

In everyting else there are lots of issues with ability staggering especially when you force sweep that can be very frustraiting. Add to that all of the issues that every Melee has to deal with. You can still be very good with a guardian if you enjoy that playstyle.

Commandos are a good enough ranged class, I have one its ok. I enjoy my gaurdian much more, but if you playing them both I would probably do the guardian second.

Haha, this is so true man... i got a 50 merc myself, and i know how freakin bad it is to get interrupted when spamming tracer missiles to build up the heatsignatures, im pretty much f'ckd if anyone interrupts my first 3 missiles.

Same with my juggernaut, i dont do any damage worth to mention, but im just annoying as hell with my force choke and force push and hell, why not mention my survivability? nearly unkillable 1v1 or even 1v2....

On my sorc , i just stand on range from high ground and just spam my force lightning like a boss, if someone jumps me, i just knock them down with my overload... easy as hell, or if i get tracer spammed, i just bubble and absorb ridiculus amounts of dmg while i interrupt on 30m range.... lol?

The ONLY class that actually requires some kind of skill in this game is sentinel/marauder.

And they got no survivability pretty much, and uses medium armor. Therefore they are not very good due to the squishyness. (hence im not playing one anymore)

Aaaaand finally we got the operative/scoundrel... i have a scoundrel myself aswell which i do enjoy playing on... but yeah......... do i need to say more that they need 4buttons to kill anyone? oh, and i forgot... dirty kick into flashbang ? GG.

Jesus christ, wonder what the developers of bioware thought when they added adrenals like the biochem stuff..... ***?

"hey look at me, i just shot myself in the leg with 9001mg of testosterone syringe, now i can crit for 9k instead of 3 ! WHOHO"

Holy mother of god epic fail. biochem is therefore a MUST for competivite PvP in this game. fail? yes.

Here comes the holy *****slap to biowares face. The ABILITY LAG. This is killing the game. Very fast and it should have been fixed in retail.......... Now when im done complaining, im gonna go on one of my 10 characters and enjoy this ability lag in warzones and try gank random republics in ilum... oh wait.... THERE ARE NONE .

One free AoE knockback (Concussion Charge) that also slows.

One free 4 second stun (Cryo Grenade)

A talent earned knockback (Stock Strike) from the tree you would be taking for Grav round.

To say the only have a single KB is falsity, sure they don't have a ton of CC, but the CC they do have is pretty solid.

this one is easy. Commando any day. Gunnery/Assult specs do very good dps. Having the option to heal is a huge plus and the single target healing on a commando is outstanding.

Guardians are incredibly complex -- yes they have very powerful debuffs and guard can be very useful, but with a bad team its not goning to help. Guardian dps is also very difficult, requiring stacking a lot of damage modifiers first, whereas Commando dps is pew pew fun.

And there really is no advantage to Guardian "tanks" in pvp. Yes a few fun cds, but most player damage is not mitigated.

Stockstrike doesn't give you room to nuke.

It gives you an opening to run away, or to push someone off a ledge if they are standing right next to one.

It is by far the weakest KB in the game, you don't use it to gain room to nuke. Probably the best use for it is to Stockstrike followed by Concussive Charge to knock someone way out of position/away from an objective.

4 buttons? I count a lot more then four...

1- stealth

2- sneak (increases stealth rating so you dont get detected when you close the gap on someone)

3- Relic/adrenal (absolutely required if you want to stand a chance if you mess up)

4- Flechette round

5- Shoot First

6- Blaster Whip

7- flechette round again

8- backblast

9- sucker punch until dead.

9- dodge to remove dots/snares

10- vanish (if you're lucky enough to not have it lag out)

Just because you only see shotguns and punches doesn't mean there aren't a lot more skills being used, but you would know that since you "have a scoundrel"
