Drewhat
So correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems that one issue with crafting is that the ROI on premium and prototype items is just in their evolutionary step to a purple item. What if things were a little different... I'm thinking that there could be a way that you could get maybe, daily missions for crafters, or maybe even 'flashpoint' type crafting missions. But they would be issued in the form of contracts with an order of items to be fielded. So I don't know the math for the ROI on all the crafting levels but here is an example of what I am thinking: Mission/Contract: The Republic Fleet's Navy 23rd Armored Cavalry Squadron is upgrading its outdated gear. We are looking for a vendor to provide the following items: 30 Redoubt Reinforced Mesh boots 30 Redoubt Reinforced Mesh gloves 30 Redoubt Reinforced Mesh belts 30 Redoubt Reinforced Mesh chestguards 30 Light Ripper Blaster Rifles The reward for this contract will be 150 credits per item, 5 Random (depending on hardness) [Artifact] Armormech Schematics, 25,000 credits bonus upon completion, and +25 exp crafting bonus. You would turn in these things incrementally rather than all at once. You could only have one contract at once, and they may or may not include items outside your character's crafting skill to be filled. I see this creating more demand for lower level stuff. It would be interesting if you even could say, field an entire unit, that could then be deployed with a one time effect in a pvp warzone. Just some random thoughts

DarthDemens
Honestly, probably a little overpowered in terms of things. To propose a slight alternative: 1) Each daily craft requires 1 of the items you listed, with correspondingly lower rewards. You receive either A) Daily Commendations, or B) a Prototype RE-able schematicic. 2) They stay roughly as you said, but are a Weekly quest. They reward 1-2 Artifact schematics. Also, this: 30 Redoubt Reinforced Mesh boots 30 Redoubt Reinforced Mesh gloves 30 Redoubt Reinforced Mesh belts 30 Redoubt Reinforced Mesh chestguards 30 Light Ripper Blaster Rifles Is going to be close to 8 hours of crafting time spent after gathering all the mats (150 items at 3min each). Even with 5 companions going, that's a MASSIVE time investment for a daily quest. Either make it a weekly, or reduce it to 1 of the items per (so, 30 belts, or 30 gloves) Edited January 27, 2012 by DarthDemens
STRWRSFanforLife
I like the overall idea. Right now the only way to get exotic metals from Underworld Trading is a 1 in a million chance of critting, or by crafting missions. Crafting missions, at least on my server are few and far between....nowhere near the amount of metals needed for my profession....cybertech....and a guildie runs into the same problem with both metals and exotic silks. Definately a good idea...I agree, can't be too generous though....don't wanna crash the economy...make people able to level from 1-400 in 4 hoours, etc...but a little boost would be nice...I mean, right now, it could conceivably take 3 hours to get a stack of 10 exotic metals without missions, possibly longer..haven't tried to do it without buying missions before....thats a little rough:/ Good Idea, hope a dev reads it and adds it the list of things to think about:), but I wouldn't hold your breath. If anything, an easy fix would just be make the "drop rate" of missions a little higher for slicers. Good Luck, Mike
GnatB
1. I'm almost certainly EQ2 had something like that for guild EXP. (though I believe it also gave crafting exp) 2. I (as synthweaver) only really bother upgrading chest pieces to artifact level. (and that mainly for my own use) prototype stuff sells just fine. It isn't only used just to get to purple. 3. Prototype shematics as rewards? Why bother unless they are RE'd schematic rewards.. Due to the way RE works, I'd much rather start with a green and RE my way to prototype (then artificat) than start with prototype and RE my way to artifact then artifact again. That being said, take that exact quest, (Toss out the blasters, because no, I don't think these should be interdependant, that just means people will make alts) So... 30 Redoubt Reinforced Mesh boots 30 Redoubt Reinforced Mesh gloves 30 Redoubt Reinforced Mesh belts 30 Redoubt Reinforced Mesh chestguards And make the reward the schematics for the purple Veracity Reinforced Mesh boots, gloves, belt, and chestguard? Hell yeah. Edit: Somehow I read your artifact as prototype. If you really did mean you'd get T2 purple schematics out of it, (and not T0) then ignore me. HELL YEAH. Don't even NEED any of the other rewards... Edited January 27, 2012 by GnatB

I just wanted to get the concept on the table. I put bigger numbers up there thinking that it would be more interesting if these contracts would be performed more by a guild rather than an individual. The contracts could be accessed and shared through each planet's trade skills vendor in a separate tab, and you could just sell the items you have on you to the vendor to incrementally fill the contract. You'd get the money up front there. Then when it is complete, the contract owner gets the bonus goods and can dole them out how they see fit. Side idea: What could be interesting too, is if you could asssign a companion to a contract so they could continuously craft and sell these things to the purchaser. It would allow for continuous crafting. But maybe offline crafting isn't something Bioware wants.

GnatB
Yeah they had crafting daily's. And "Writs" for Guild XP. Talk about a grindfest! lol Yep, I was a member of the first guild to get to (what was at the time) the max guild level. Second person (after one of the guild leaders) to get the flying carpet. Totally burned me out though. That (and the fact that all the fancy dress was adventuring level restricted, and thus I, as a max level townsfolk/crafter couldn't wear it, was the last straw that canceled my sub)
