SWTOR isnt bad (my take on things)

Recommended Posts

I've been playing for a few weeks and in my down time I peruse the forums to see what interesting things and opinions people have to say, and so far all I'm seeing is people belittling the game or posting that they are quitting. TOR just celebrated its one month birthday. Hell, even WoW didn't pop out perfect. All games are released with bugs. Its just aa fact of the gaming industry. Many things seem perfect in testing, but the issues arent really noticed until release, then the process of analyze the bug, figure out aa good fix that the majority of players will like, then programming it, then finally releasing it in a patch, the whole process takes time. And I'm sure they know about many of the bugs, and probably have quite a few fixed, but if they patched after every bug was fixed, then there'd be a daily patch which would anger more people than not.

Also, if you quit, we don't care why. If the game angers you so bad, why bother posting your reason for quitting? Its not like you'd be around to see the fix, so save your fingers for whatever you use them for and leave the bandwidth for people with meaningful posts.

I'm off my soapbox now. Edit to follow if I think of something else to add.

Alright flamers (I know your out there), flame away.

Nothing to flame, your posting nothing new or interesting at all.

Imo people can make all the "I quit" or "I am leaving" treads they want. Feedback from users are most importent if we want this game made better, and i do.

Its NOT perfect and will never be, but improvements are needed, and they will only come if feedback is made, so keep posting all. Its a FREE world and free speech for all !

I definitely agree there is room for improvement, but for being one month old, it doesn't deserve to be called horribly broken yet. My point is just that. Its too new to be perfect, which is what alot of people are expecting. I firmly believe with the right focus and updates, give it a while and this game could potentially give Wow a run for its money.

Game doesnt anger me at all, sure it has bugs and serious gameplay issues tha beg to question the dev teams competence but i still have hope.

But what does anger me is the pure zeal of the fanboy community attacking every poster that DARES to criticise their baby, regardless if it's constructive list of issues that are not quite befitting to a AAA rated game or a mindless QQ rant peppered with innuendo, swearing and typing errors.

In the end these both get the same treatment until mod comes along and closes the thread and then it's time to chalk another victory to fanboys and the whole issue is buried for good.

calling this game "not-bad" really means BW failed miserably... if you called a FTP game that was developed in someones basement in 6 months "not-bad" that'd be OK, but not when talking about major $200m+ release 5 years in development Edited by CptKloss

Several incorrect statements in this post.

1. I quit threads generally contain little to zero useful feedback. By definition. Feedback is generally only listened to when posted in a thoughtful well-reasoned manner. Stating, "I quit, game suxxs" isn't productive, is entirely useless and simply bumps usefull threads down the page. Pretending some developer is going to gain insight from that is absurd.

2. Forums are not the land of free speech for all. You agree to adhere to a code of conduct.

At one point, we'll all realize the Emperor is wearing no clothes.

It lacks fundamental MMO qualities. Add to that the fact that I honestly have never seen such a broken game in my life. And I'm not young.

Then you clearly haven't played many games at release.

I am not expecting it to be perfect, but tbh the basic should be in place...

The account system in this game is just omg....

I have a friend who got the Founder titel and can play until 18/2 yet no payment was made, while other pay twice and get nothing ?

Also the "Key has already been used" just cant happen in a redem system running in 2011/2012.

That is a fair criticism. But shouldn't our skills work at the outset of an MMO when we press the buttons? Shouldn't we be able to abandon quests that state "Optional" in the title? Shouldn't my companion attack right away instead of brewing coffee, reading the paper and taking a dump first?

1. If Bioware want to make money, ill bet you they are looking into all posts made here.

2. freedom of speech and code of conduct isent 2 things that cant mix. The fact you think "code of conduct" limits your freedom of speech is sad imo.

I am enjoying the game as well. I am raiding, and leveling an alt. I enjoy the story and the game play.

My biggest gripe I guess is that I want a music loop option because sometimes its awfully quiet out there and I like the music that is in the game.

Anyway I'll be playing for a long time.

Mute game music, launch Spotify, make playlist of a selection of Star Wars OST tunes and enjoy.

Here's what you do at level 50:

-2 daily PvP quests

-2 raids on normal mode

There is no reason to do HM instances. You can get crafted gear off the AH that is level 126 compared to the HM gear which is 126. Then with this crafted gear go straight into raiding for 136 gear. Also, you can PvP for 136 gear, which even with expertise, has better stats than the 126 gear

There is no reason to do hard mode raids in this game. Not only is the gear only 4 item levels higher (140 compared to 136) but it's a downgrade in all situations.

Tank gear sacrifices shield rating for surge.

DPS gear sacrifices power for accuracy.

Healing gear sacrifices power for alacrity.

People took their time. They did all the quests. They did all the class quests. Now there is nothing do, unless you enjoy rolling an alt and doing the exact same journey all over again.

Then you the general issues with ability delay still in the game and stun locking yourself.

The awful RNG bag system for PvP.

The failure that is ilum in design.

The game issues with massive FPS lag even with top-end computers.

Do the dev's communicate well? Nope. Not at all.

No daily posts on the state of the game and what they're working on to improve it. No justification for their nerfs to classes.

In short, there is no vision for this game. And if this is their vision, then there is absolutely no reason to stick around.

The game was worth the box sale to experience. After that, it's not worth anything else.

It is quite clear during production they said:

"Yo guys so like there's this thing called an MMO RPG. It's like a single player game but you charge a subscription to people!"

"Sweet yo lets do that!!!"

"YEA!"

And that's how SWTOR was formed.

The problem isn't whether it's perfect or not (nothing is), the question is whether it's intrinsically flawed.

They've made some design decisions that just seem short sighted and others that just seem daft.

But to counter that they've made some great ones too.

But rightly or wrongly MMOs don't get "a while" to get things sorted, they have a very short window of opportunity to do so.

Personally whilst I enjoy the game, I wonder if some of it's intrinsic flaws are going to keep me from enjoying it for very long.

Wrong

Wrong. Wrong. Right. Wrong

Wrong. Wrong.

May be right in some cases. Wrong. Wrong.

Forgot to add "IMO".

Right. Wrong. Right. Right.

Forgot "imo" part again.

Right.

Like that part.

11 out of 18 is wrong. Nice ratio.
