Powertech - valid DPS class?

I am currently a level 12 powertech. Before I progress any further I just want to check - is powertech a valid DPS class? I am not sure I want to be forced to tank only and want to see if I will be welcome in groups as a DPS dealer.

 

Also - with regards to stats, what sort of stats should I prioritise when gearing up a DPS powertech?

Aim. Stack it like it's going out of style. Then crit chance and surge helps a lot once you've got enough accuracy. Personally I prioritize shield chance since it increases the rocket punch cooldown proc rate which also boosts the rail shot proc rate.

 

Depends on the pug climate on your server of course but I've seldom been disappointed by the damage output. You can be beaten by a good DPS class but they have to worry about agro. A powertech can survive long enough to kill pretty much anything. It also makes a main tanks job easier when you can split of some of the aggro and flatten them while the rest of the group starts on the main target when the mobs are spread out. Just have to be careful not to take on too much and tell the healer ahead of time not to switch away from the tank just because you're down to 30%

I don't know about out DPSing classes but I frequently pull threat off the tank if I go all out on a single target as a pyrotech. Perfectly valid DPS choice if you got the gear to support it.

Pyro Powertech is pretty lackluster in the way of dps compared to other classes. If you wanting to be a dps bounty hunter you should reroll merc.

 

Powertechs in general don't get much in the way of damaging abilities. (Compared to other advanced classes)
