SpiffyJr
What's the best way to help out the team and be of use. I'm sitting at 11,250 HP with 0 expertise and get utterly f---ing decimated in seconds. I was thinking, hey, I'll just bump my survivability up enough to keep guard/taunt up and protect healers. Wrong... I died from guard damage alone for the first time. So, how the hell do I get the gear? I went from being in the top of the damage and top of protection to just getting **** on in seconds. 10-49 was so much fun. Do I need to just pray for a good group to be in? SpiffyJr
Guess I was having bad luck. Faced off against a group of "regular" people and ended up having a ton of protection and some medals. It'll be slow but someday I'll get geared. Malissant
You're quite squishy at only 12k health. Yes you will die from guard because a geared healer will be around 15k health. In fact you'll probably die from guard a lot, so get used to that. Also as a fresh 50 you've found out why 50 brackets are going to kind of suck - because you have no expertise and the people you are fighting do. Go to Ilum and Belsavis and complete the dailys. Get purple mods and enhancements for your orange armor - this will help. You can also purchase Rakata implants and earpieces with daily commendations. Make sure you are picking up your daily/weekly pvp quests from the pvp armor area on the fleet. Completing these will get you equipment. Instead of using Guard so much, try taunting more for your protection score - 30% damage reduction boosts those numbers pretty quick. Peel away from 1v1 fights, you aren't going to win, and don't jump into a group of bad guys, you're going to have to play smart on the fringe of the fights. Jump to a ranged dps on their team and drop some stuns or CC on them, then leap back to someone on your team to get out of the hot zone. You're also effective throwing targets in toward your melee dps, or away from your healers.
SpiffyJr
Illum isn't really an option. I was there for two hours last night and got 5 kills. Thanks for the rest of the advice, though. It didn't help that I was at 1k/1k commendations with a bag in my storage and didn't get any gear from it. It didn't help that I was at 1k/1k commendations with a bag in my storage and didn't get any gear from it. I don't mean in the PVP area. There are regular soloable quests on Ilum and Belsavis that award "Daily Commendations" for completing them. These are what I'm talking about. They are in the PvE area, not the PvP area. At the first Ilum base area there are vendors inside that sell things for these commendations, take a look at them. I also haven't been back to Ilum to PvP since 2 days after last patch. SpiffyJr
Interesting. Any idea how many commendations can be gotten?

drogpac
always go left on civil war (alderan pvp) lower gear/levels are more useful there than at center because often times it gets ignored and u can just go cap/defend it while others do other things. sure, you're less invovled, but you're useful. on voidstar, see if you can't lure people to the back (away from door) when attacking, to give planters more space. on hutball - do you best? if you're open to the idea, change to focus spec until you get more gear. this will let u do hit and run tactics. Just guardian leap out of it when you're starting to get focused (if possible)

I decided to swap to a Soresu/Focus build for now to try it out so I can do the hit&run bomb technique. Thanks again for the advice. Glad I posted here and not the PvP forum because it's generally filled with "LOL QQ MOAR NOOB."
SpiffyJr
Things are looking up. Managed to get my pants, boots, earpiece and relic today. (I actually got boots twice so I bought both sets). Was a lucky day for me and PvP is going much smoother.
Helig
Things are looking up. Managed to get my pants, boots, earpiece and relic today. (I actually got boots twice so I bought both sets). Was a lucky day for me and PvP is going much smoother. I envy you. I opened a hundred bags and got over nine thousand boots and tons of useless Centurion badges - stuff that greatly downgrades my HP and Strength. As for your original post, Corellia questing offers nice starting mods\gear - you should be able to hit 14k no problem. And yes, like the guys above me said, level 126 armoring\hilts for daily commendations are very good for fresh 50s. Also a word of caution - in case you aren't aware, the tank set is useless in PvP. Defense\shield gets bypassed by 80% of attacks, and the set bonuses are very unimpressive. Go for the DPS set for maximum flexibility. SpiffyJr
Yea, I plan to get DPS only and pick up the defense stuff if I get duplicates so I can use it in PvE.
