Battlemaster Boxes; some suggestions

I'm going to try not to complain too much. I hope this is at least a constructive post on what is an issue for high level PvPers.

 

Achieving battlemaster, as I and many others have done, should be rewarded and rewarding. Presently it is not rewarded, nor is it rewarding, for many of us who have grinded our butts off to achieve this.

 

The RNG on the Battlemaster boxes needs to go. You developer types said you wanted to make content which we wanted to play, well here's your chance; remove RNG from Battlemaster boxes; we battlemasters have earned a pass on the RNG, frankly. Triple the cost, guarantee the token from a box, and its effectively the same time, but without the daily frustrations of opening a box of useless champion commendations. I've done 2 weeks worth of BM dailies and only received one (1) token, and not even a gear piece.

 

One might say that the randomness balances out. This is an astute, but flawed observation for a few reasons. The statistics only balance out as the sample size reaches infinity. In the perceptions of each player, the randomness can't balance out because there simply isn't enough time in the process to allow it to happen. A battlemaster only requires 20 BM commendations to obtain a full set of gear, this is far to small to allow for randomness in the process. This small sample size allows for a far greater than tolerable deviation from the nominal gear acquisition rate for the battlemaster. It is far too likely that some will be extraordinarily lucky, and some to be extraordinarily unlucky.

 

I understand that you dev types look at macroscopic processes, but the player honestly does not care about the server's gear acquisition rate. We only see a bunch of useless boxes which have a fixed acquisition rate themselves, which brings me to my next point.

 

I don't want to spend all my warzone commendations on adrenals and medpacks or useless greens.

 

Allow battlemasters (perhaps at valor level 65 or something slightly higher than 60) to purchase a battlemaster box for 500/500 commendations or something near that number. Simply give us a way to spend these commendations, because they're effectively useless. Give us a way to earn our BM gear on our own terms, to some degree so that we feel as if we have some control over the process. Opening two daily boxes of disappointment is simply a poor gameplay experience for anyone and I honestly can't believe that anyone on the development team thought that it was a good idea for the highest tier of pvp gear, which should be a reward.

 

You were on the right track with tokenizing the BM gear, removing gear duplication, but the random element persisted, incorrectly. It does not need to persist, and the element hinders positive player experiences more than it creates them.

I agree with every point in this thread. Just getting BM bags in general sucks.

 

Ilum daily takes forever as it is gated by people actually being in a gigantic zone and on the attack/defense.

 

Warzone daily takes forever because the wins may not register and Empire PUGs suck. It can take anywhere from 1-2 hours a day.

 

I have given up on getting anymore BM gear until the commendation rate is changed. Getting 4 extra rating on my armor and +30 power on my relics usage isn't worth the screwed up 4 hour grind I need to do every day. I'd rather play an alt, go raid, or go outside.

I'm at 2 tokens from 19 boxes so far. At this rate it would take me about 6 months to finally get the full set of gear. There is literally almost no incentive for me to keep wasting time every day trying to get boxes that are going to give me some tokens I don't need.

 

We should at least get a guaranteed token from the weekly quests. I went through 34 champion bags on the way to battlemaster and I didn't get anything from them. On the 35th bag, I got a duplicate then went through another 21 bags without getting anything again. That would be almost a month to get 1 token with the boxes and over a year for the full set of gear. This RNG is the worst system that could have been implemented and really needs to go.

I'm not even Battlemaster yet and I hate the system.

 

I have two missing pieces of Champion gear at Valor 58, the pants and the bracers.

 

I have 5 extra relics, two extra boots, one extra gloves, 1 extra helm, 1 extra offhand, and 2 extra belts.

 

All useless.

Keep the battlemaster RNG here. Make the next tier require a competitive rating. Game fixed.

 

This would be interesting, if it could work.

 

There is simply not the pvp base on most servers to support a competitive system. Only a fully cross-server pvp community could support it. I would love the ability to compare myself to other pvpers across the whole playerbase, but to have my gear determined by that number would seem to further stratify an already overly divided pvp community.

 

A rating-based gear system would only serve to exclude more people from the top tiers of pvp based on gear, which as we have all seen, is quite determining in pvp success. The present model of equal-access based on equal participation seems to be the correct model and the most enjoyable for the most players.

 

The problem with the present BM system is that it is not equal access based on equal participation because of its RNG dependence.

 

Let skill and effort be the differentiation at the highest levels of pvp, not skill + gear + RNG.

I have seen people struggle with this system once they hit BM, so my motivation to grind out my last several prestige levels has gone down.

 

The illum daily/weekly is just not enjoyable and the pvp quests are still not registering wins. If the BM bags weren't a crappy RNG roll every time I'd have something to look forward to and I would be more willing to put up with the current daily/weeklies.

 

I also really like the idea of letting BM's buy gear/tokens with commendations, even if 500/500 or more it's still something to use them for.
