asbalana Posted January 23, 2012 Posted January 23, 2012 Hi everyone. I am a noob and not very knowledgeable and would appreciate it if someone could clue me in on what is happening and what I am seeing. I have a i7 950, 2 x gtx285 ocxs, 12G ram on an EVGA classified all in a HAF case. All drivers are up to date. I am finding that the game is running very hot on my cards. Vsync is enabled. I (without vsync) can get 100+ fps on high settings. With vsync on and all settings low, shadows and AA off, and so on my card (not running sli) seems to run at about 50% (per EVGA precision) and yet temps get into the high 70s and will head to the 80s when in combat with a lot of mobs being around. I have my card fans on max. I have no problems in other, supposedly more demanding games. My wife has a q9450, 4G ram, and 2 x 9800gtx+s. She is running high on everything, shadows AA on, vsync off (getting 70fps most places) and is having no heating or other problems. Her case has about half the fans that mine do. She is running cool and smooth. The big joke is that pre loading the game, I was not even sure if it would run on her computer decently enough to play. I just don't get it and cannot figure out why a much lesser machine, which should be strained, can do so well, while mine is suffering heat to the degree (no pun) that I may have to quit playing. Any comments or insights would be appreciated.

You'd be better off to upgrade those cards to something with lower TDP, like a 500 series.

I guess that I will have to wait until I can afford new card(s) and sneak onto my wifes computer when I want to play.

Fan modifications are the most common. Something like this or this
