SWTOR needs to be more "unique" compared to other MMO games (WoW..)

Look at the current SWTOR and look at other MMO games. They all revolve around the same thing: End Game Raiding and PVP. That's pretty much the bread and butter of any MMO games out there. If you take away the companions and the story aspect of SWTOR you're pretty much left with WoW in Space, more or less - I'm fairly certain every gamer of both games can agree to that.

The "issue", however, isn't necessarily Raiding per se. End game raiding is simply just a part of the MMO genre and I'm fine with that. Thing is though, when raiding is so common, what can be done to make SWTOR unique compared to other games? IMO the game needs to me more Star Wars-ish without hurting the raiding community. The thing about this, however, is that it cannot take away too much time from the developers.

If Bioware was to make new content it would need to be; simple, FUN, engaging and exhilarating. It needs to be at least somewhat simple, because it shouldn't neglect the raid-guilds and should thus be easy to expand upon. But just because it's somewhat simple doesn't mean it should be boring, no it would need to enganging and exhilerating so that people can play it just because it's fun and not necessarily because of the unlocks.

obviously those points are no where near easy to achieve.

Anyway, enough with the boring stuff. I've been thinking the last couple of weeks what I'D like to see. I want SWTOR to be unique while also reminding us of what universe we're playing in so this is what I've come up with (most likely the same things that we all want to see, lol):

Space Combat PVP (with Guild Capital Ships):

This shouldn't really need much explanation. Space combat with possibly our current space ships. Guild vs Guild, but also just random groups.

An additional addon could potentially be, when done with the space combat the winning team boards the other players and will engage in regular PvP combat as we know it, inside the ship.

"Pod-Racing" (or something similar)

This is fairly easy to explain. Pod-Racing similar to what as we know it. Could have something like 3-4 different leagues that determines the skills of the player and the speed of the vehicle.

Arena/gladiator Fighting

This should not be compared to the PvP Arena content known from WoW, but more like what we see in SWII: Attack of the Clones. It should be available to all, as in it's a 1-4 player system and all lvls. The more people the harder it gets. If you're alone you'll use a companion. Two players can also use companions, but may decide not to.. Or something along those lines. Obviously you'll be fighting mobs which could be randomly picked from a huge roster.

PVP Arena/tournament

Similar to what we know from WoW, just with a tournament aspect. Every night there will be a different tournament. What I mean is, that Monday might be 1v1, Tuesday 2v2 and so on. The tournament idea is similar to what can be found in Warcraft 3: TFT online.

When we reach the Semi-Finals the player could be fighting on one specific "colosseum-ish" Arena that'll allow none-fighters/losers to watch the fights LIVE and place bets on what team that might win - the fights shouldn't necessarily just be Republic vs Empire, but also Empire players vs Empire. Obviously people can still queue up for regular Arena fights outside the Tournaments to practice and what not.

Card Playing

Challenge other players to some sort of mini game that invovle cards. Choose to play for fun or for money/BoE items. I'm not sure how the mini game should be, but it should be easy to pick up and yet addictive.

Bounty Hunting vs other players/maybe NPCs too

Somthing I just read about on the forums. In the old Star Wars Galaxies it was possible to put a bounty on other players head, if they killed you in World PVP, so that other people could pick up that bounty and hunt the killer down.

An alternative solution that could co-exist with the Bounty on players could be bounties on NPCs that require groups and possibly raids.. Maybe..

Earlier I mentioned that these features should be "simple" so that it's easier to implement additional content. What I mean by that is, after the "Pod-Racing" has been implemented it shouldn't be hard to make additional tracks or other planets/places to wage space combat above.

Another thing is that most of these features shouldn't be THAT hard to make. I mean, obviously stuff like Space Combat is something big that could come with an expansion, but stuff like bounties, PVP Arena/The other Arena and some sort of Card game really isn't THAT demanding. We already have PVP, the developers just need to be a little more creative about it.

Anyway, to request that all these features should be available within a year is not realististic, and surely I don't expect to see all of them if any in the game, but it should give the developers something to think about.

Make SWTOR more unique and diverse, let both high-end gamers and every player under lvl 50 have something to mess around with when they're tired of questing and raiding. No wait, let people have something to do if they simply don't care for Raiding - make this game more diverse!

Anyway I would love it if people contributes with their own thoughts and hopefully we could make BW aware of the fact that adding more Raids and FPs, while fine, just doesn't quite cut it, considering how many great MMOs there are currently on the market and what will come in the near future.

Obviosly these things shouldn't be implemented before most of the current known bugs/glitches are fixed. There's no need to add content to a "broken" game.

So what do you think?

Unfortunately, from what I've heard the developers at bioware state that they did not wish to "fix what wasn't broken". As a result we got the problem you just discussed with no real strides in MMO innovation.

I still play the game, have fun, but I do cringe every second i remember it's basically just Wow

If they would add Arenas and Race Tracks..I would hope theyd create them on new planets that werent involved with all the fighting.

I think the one thing that would deter me from anything of this sort would be having to fight thru mobs to get to it. Make some combat neutral planets for more 'relaxed' gameplay like those two suggestions and it could become a social hub.

Wait, what? The "fix what wasn't broken" argument is just stupid, because what I mentioned should be added without sacrificing the regular end-game content (Raid/PVP).

Anyway, I'm fairly certain I've seen an article stating that Bioware is making Guild Capital Ships. Thing is that it's not enough just to feature a Guild Ship without any other purpose to gather the guild.

Giving us PVP Arena with tournament + space fights would do so much to this game without sacrificing anything. It's nothing, but expanding what already is.

Yes, these are good ideas. The "pod-racing" could be some sort of underworld racing so that it wouldn't mess too much with the current lore.

The Arena thingy should also be easy to implement lore-wise.
