Muckbeast
Because that will be a day of great rejoicing amongst the consumers. Is there anything stupider right now than the very concept of a PvP reward system that is purely random? Wouldn't it make more sense if every bag had a fixed number of commendations, and every piece of gear has a fixed cost? Why the stupid random crap that results in some people needing many hundreds of bags to get a set of champion gear, and other people get it all in 10-20? Please get rid of this garbage. LordKnives
Because they realize their pvp system is whole-fully lacking in time requirements and that players would become geared far too quickly. However, they did change BATTLEMASTER bags and holy ****, the mass of players with battlemaster weapons on my server (DWC) is very noticeable. That and them being able to farm to the valor required to use the aforementioned gear in the one day killing turrets that "weren't meant to be killed." Thanks Bio, maybe a little more testing and a little less pushing of bugged and unintentionally rewarding content for the few players that will learn about it and exploit it to all hell before it's fixed. While you're at it, how about some penalties for the players that do this, like I mentioned before about the amount of players at battlemaster level now, I doubt I'll even be able to compete anymore. Welshmen
Lol could not agree more what in the hell were they thinking?? you have to farm 200 each token takes about 4-5 hours if you are winning then you open a bag and get nothing but a few tokens then go get farmed by fully geared 50s for another 6 hours at a another random chance to get a piece of gear god this *********** game is terrible I have 1 day left on my sub and I will not be giving EA Bioware anymore money for this pos, last time I check games were supposed to be fun that's why we play right ? If you look at some of these planets the amount of time they spent and then take a look at the *********** pvp system if they put half the time they did in some of these planets might of been a different story who the **** plays games to quest, questing is just what you do to get the max level where the game is supposed to really began these morons got it completely backwards
zizzefex
I don't mind the random bags so much as you should be able to trade duplicates in for other items of equal badges..... or be able to trade them with other players for the ones you need. Muckbeast
Here is what makes this system so miserable. It cheats me of the ability to look forward to rewards. My next piece of gear could come in my next bag, or 50 bags from now. I have no idea. After so many empty bags, at this point all I can do is expect the worst. It has gotten to the point that sometimes I don't even want to turn in my dailies/weeklies. I get more joy from seeing the mission tracker say they are complete, than from opening the bag. At least I still have hope with the mission is there to be turned in. Once I get the bags, and open them up for the worthless centurion comms, then I'm just bummed that all that effort was completely flushed down the toilet. In PvE, you look forward to gaining a level. In most games, you look forward to accomplishments whose completion you are nearing. But these random bags completely cheat you of that anticipation and joy. You don't get to look forward to anything because you don't have quantifiable progress. If the decent champ gear was 30 comms per piece, and each bag had 3 champ comms, that would be fine. Then I'd know that every 10 bags I get a piece of gear. Awesome! I can be happy about each bag that gets me a little bit closer to my next piece of gear. But this is like roulette. A fail spin doesn't actually get you any closer to a reward. Edited January 20, 2012 by Muckbeast
Muckbeast
Just to be clear... If it took 30 commendations, at 3 per bag, that would be 10 bags. Every bag I got I would know that I was 10% closer to the next piece of gear. That would be great. I could look forward to every step along the way. I would be excited about every single bag because I would know I was getting steadily closer. The current random system completely cheats players of this enjoyment. Each time you open a bag and it has nothing, you are sent right back to the beginning. You are no closer at all to a decent piece of gear. Devs: Understand why the current random system is a complete, miserable failure?
JackKerras
There are alternatives. This is a rough sketch of one. http://www.swtor.com/community/showthread.php?t=204881 It is worth considering a short-term solution such as implementing this one, since it requires very little reworking of the system, can work right alongside of current Medal reward systems, and the speed at which one can gain medals (I.E. you cannot get more than 2 DPS medals per round) means that it's difficult to farm it into oblivion. Take a peek. I think the idea's solid and, more importantly, it's simple and clean to implement with no systemic changes to the basic structure of PvP... thus, it's super easy for the devs to do. Maybe I misunderstood your idea, but I worry about a system that requires min/maxing things like being the one to score the huttball, make a pass, etc. You'll get people fighting over who gets to grab the ball and other negatives. I think its even simpler to just remove the items from bags entirely. Every champ bag should have 3 champ comms and 6 cent comms. Then balance the prices of the gear however is needed. 5 bags for a piece of cent gear, 10 bags for a piece of champ gear works pretty decently. Super simple and requires almost no changes. D_Rock_
Its even worse when you can only do 1 pvp daily a day which is ilum , because on low pop servers like the one im on the pvp at 50 only happens like 2 to 5x a day and sometimes im not on its like trying to play the lottery to even participate in warzones. Tyranoc
I have to agree. Something needs to be done about the bags. I went thru almost 45 bags without ANY gear drops... But now it seems every 3 - 4 bags i get something since 1.1 Maybe my luck has changed. All i know is im Valor 47 and only need champ boots, pants and bracers and im done with EVERY pieve of champ for my marauder. BRING ON BATTLE MASTER! IF players became geared "far too quickly" what would that matter? Is the fun in getting geared or the actual PVP? Personally, my enjoyment in gearing up is far outweighed by my dissatisfaction with being destroyed by people with the best gear. If everyone geared up quickly it would only equal the playing field, which the hardcore people dread as they'd actually have competition and their 24/7 playstyle would have less meaning. TheRealBrave
I unsubbed and my reasons listed were: 1. Lotto Bags 2. Gabe being a useless sack of garbage 3. Ilum spawn camping battlemasters getting away with it
TheRealBrave
hit the nail!!!!! No, he entirely missed it. These bags are not even guaranteed to drop an item of any kind after hours of farming the commendations for the bags. Dragon slayers are at least guaranteed that something will drop for one of their raiders at bare minimum.

Caliban_Thule
hit the nail!!!!! Random is never good. Its why WoW stopped doing it as the only form of loot. You can get random drops, BUT you are also there working towards a goal with badges, even if you get nothing. They seemed to understand that with PvE somewhat, but thats about it. This game is far FAR too random. Random loot drops, random PvP loot, random RE recipies, random gathering mats. You are never working towards anything, you are always just hoping you dont get screwed by another dice roll. Hell its random if my warzone wins will count towards the daily. Its not a way to keep people playing. Either people will A: get the stuff too quickly, or B: give up after too long a string of bad luck. Its MMO 101, something that should have been apparent

JackKerras
Don't call for people to be fired. That's just being an ******e; sometimes designers make bad decisions and the way that they handle those bad decisions is more telling of their skill than that they made 'em in the first place. Also, look at, comment on, vote up http://www.swtor.com/community/showthread.php?t=204881 . It's a system that will fix bag RNG and give noobs who can't be arsed to learn the gametype a good, quantifiable incentive to complete objectives and do things that benefit their team.
