Owsley
The big question is the requirement for your video card. Some require dedicated power supply power connectors. This PS doesn't have any. I would go with at least 700w in case you upgrade your video card anytime in the near future. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001G0WPLK/ref=s9_simh_gw_p147_d0_g147_i3?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=center-2&pf_rd_r=1NF82A1GGS79K4VFH428&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=470938631&pf_rd_i=507846 Here is a FAQ about buying a PS http://www.jonnyguru.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1036 Edited January 19, 2012 by Owsley
Darthshnooky
The biggest thing to look at is the types and number of connections you have in your system (your mobo for one, but also your disc drives, video card, other cards and drives within the tower) and make sure the new power supply has enough of the right types of connections for your rig. ATX power supplies have not altered much. Your mainboard requires the typical ATX connector (standard on all ATX power supplies), as well as the 4 pin connector (the vast majority should have this). Then you just need to make sure it has the rest of the connectors you need for HD's, DVD drives, etc etc. Oh, and this might help http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/xps420/en/OM/HTML/parts.htm#wp1472608 That's the full service manual for your box. The 6850 only draws like 130 Watts TDP http://www.hwcompare.com/9024/geforce-gtx-570-vs-radeon-hd-6850/ If you upgrade your PSU take the side cover off your PC and actually measure your Dell PSU i think you will find it is not a standerd ATX size. EDIT found this http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/desktop/f/3514/t/19267468.aspx If that is true this is the **** $45 after rebate free shipping allows for alot of upgrades high quality. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817371031 Edited January 20, 2012 by blowmedown
