trocious
Not sure if this the right place but: Hi all, So basically my issue is that, I've done a clean install of Windows 7, 64-bit, from my previous OS which was Windows Vista 32-bit. During the install, all my old files and folders were saved, and placed under a folder called: windows.old. I was told that I can just load up the game from there, and indeed the launcher and all files exist there. However, when I go in and click on the launcher, it does work. Then after I log in, I can get all the way where it patches (and I've patched), but the "play" button is greyed out. Any solutions to this problem? I think my best bet would be to just reinstall and patch the game.. but I was hoping there would be some workaround that's a little easier than that. I appreciate any help!! Thanks, Trocious Edited January 19, 2012 by trocious
AcidTrooper
You should make a backup On a different disc before formating your system. Solution: reinstall and patch the game
trooperrob
run the program as admin?
Satansyngel
Does it try to install the patch again if you restart the launcher? Have you tried to move the game folder from the "windows.old" folder?
Audiophalia
That's not really a clean install, but i'm just being nitpicky. Should have just whiped and reinstalled windows. Anyways, there is a way to make it work, but you're best to just redownload and reinstall because I'm sure down the road more issues will pop up if you try to find a work around. Cyphen
Transfer the Data from windows.old to the new windows partition which should be something along these lines. Computer > C: > Program Files (x86) > Electronic Arts > Bioware Once there launch the game again, if still nothing goes on then as someone suggested run as a administrator. If the button is still greyed out download a new launcher from your Account on SWTOR website and run it.
Fidzlefou
Does it try to install the patch again if you restart the launcher? Have you tried to move the game folder from the "windows.old" folder? This !! copy SWTOR folder from Window.old to your local C drive. Be sure its at the same place. In the way it is kind of clean install since everything is deleted although you still keep all your old files in the windows.old partition. Once W7 is installed you still need to update drivers and so forth, so yes it is a clean install although you have a backup on the same HDD of your old windows. Full Wipe would of course mean everything on HDD deleted and you install Windows from the BootDisc or a USB. Iv done this kind of install on over 10 computers and never ever, ever had an issue. Once corrupted installation but simply booted up back to old windows and began the process again. Most of the times there are NO compatibility issues. I'm that guy that formats his computer yearly because I'm OCD and start to get freaked out by all the files. I never played around with "upgrading" windows. I always thought it handled it how mac OS's upgrade. Props to Microsoft if it works like that though, sounds smarter.
Dukibritches
This is probably insignificant, but some of the system folders on the 64bit version are labeled differently than on 32 bit version, perhaps its not finding the .dll files or others it needs to load properly. The way I do is not really an upgrade, rather a full new install and once it is done my old Windows.Old partition is to be deleted, rather then installing from CD/Bios kind of thing I do it from my desktop due to not having the W7 disc.
