Shadow/Assassin DPS Build

Now I know that going full into the infiltration tree and spreading your last 10 give you a very high, if not the highest, spec for dps with a shadow/assassin...That being said I am now posting a build for discussion.

http://www.torhead.com/skill-calc#601ZrMrRkhMrzZf0cRr0z.1

This build is a 0/25/16 spec, losing the extra damage from clairvoyance strike (using double strike instead) and the stacking 50% crit damage bonus on project and force breach; in return gaining the use of Force in Balance (AoE with a slight heal) and Mind Crush (instant medium damage and internal DoT damage). There are a few other bonuses to using this spec in regards to project/cooldowns/damage increases/energy management etc...but I'll be focusing more on damage.

Now in shadow builds, mind crush isn't viable damage due to the casting time and as such isn't even on most shadows bars; in this build it becomes complete usable as long as you look for the buff proc'd by your melee critical hits (this buff makes mind crush free and instant). Force in balance is brilliant for pve, as its a reasonably high damage aoe that gives you a mini heal for each target hit.# (mental potency reduces its cost by half and with the shadows energy management makes it usable whenever it is up; in pvp force in balance is less usable but still helpful when initiating on a target. As a shadow you get no leap only force speed, so a force stun followed by force in balance while your running in gives alittle advantage in pvp.

I have tested this build in pve and pvp and although more 'fiddley' and awkward to use than the standard cookie cutter, I do prefer the play-style and damage output this build gives.

What i'm looking for in this thread is any ideas tweaks faults etc...so go wild 8)

Now, I am still leveling and am not near max level yet, but the top of the Infilitration Tree does not appeal to me at all.

Why, as a DPS, would you use anything other than Shadow Strike? By my quick Napkin Math, using Clairevoyant Strike and Project would not be [much] more DPS than just Shadow Striking things to death.

Do you do a lot of Single Player stuff? Is there something I am missing with a build with Clairevoyant Strike? Is there a property of CS that I don't know about? Does it hit harder than the tooltip leads me to believe?

Right now my Shadow Strike crits for 1600 at level 35, my Project only crits for about 1200. I would need 5 talent points just to get my Project to crit as hard as my Shadow Strike. Instead I can spend those points elsewhere and continue to use Shadow Strike.

The 0/33/8 spec revolves around the simultaneous use of Force Breach and Project or to be more exact using the delay on Project to make the damage hit at the same instant as Force Breach. With feats like Deep Impact buffing both Project and Force Breach, plus the 30% from Clairvoyant Strike... it spikes higher.

Mind Crush is always viable, when paired with Low Slash and Force Breach. People seem to underestimate the value of preventing restealthing.

Basically using Clairvoyant strike instead of double-strike buffs your next Project, and reduces its cost. At 50 without much in the way of gear I crit quite often around 3500 with project after 2 stacks of the Clairvoyant Strike buff, and I can hit someone 10 meters away with it. Shadow strike I don't think ive seen hit much more than 2500, though I could be wrong as I haven't played since last nite and wasn't paying attention to it, and it also requires you to be right behind the target, and uses up more Force unless you've got the once-per-so-many-seconds proc up that reduces its cost.

Not saying you can't make your style work, I haven't experimented with different builds myself, this is just what i've seen leveling straight up infiltration.

Well i've now had a chance to fully test the build and its great. Excellent damage, sure you lose alittle from clairvoyance strike but force in balance and instant free mind crush make up for that. thanks for the notes though guys...
