Naroga
Battle for Kaon Things I Like I really enjoy the dynamic lighting and the ambient sounds. The instances in the zone where only one party member has a flashlight and you're being overwhelmed by Rak'ghoul is a lot of fun. My MT was shouting on vent to kill the constrictor and my party was telling him to aim the flashlight so we could see, all while frantically trying to deal with the zombie horde. Multiple times during the run we commented on how the atmosphere was spot on. The groans, grunts, and music really got us in the survival horror mood. I'll admit that the times the whole party could get flashlights, I was relieved. Many of the mobs are straight from Left 4 Dead. They have a Rak'ghoul equivalent of the boomer, the smoker, the hunter, and the witch. Even one of the bosses is a version of the tank. This isn't a complaint! Referring to the mobs by their Left 4 Dead counterparts was a natural switch. Things that need to be tweaked The amount of trash needs to be lowered. As it stands now, the run takes too long. Several times my MT commented about how "we're almost to the next boss, I think!" only to have another 5 minutes of trash in our way. Not a huge issue, but trash serves no purpose except to artificially inflate the run time. Second, tweak the second boss. We beat the encounter on hard-mode having no clue what the mechanics were when we pulled. We blew up the barrels eventually, but he enraged. Despite the enrage, we still killed him because he is easily kiteable. Overall Conclusion Overall, it's a great dungeon and it shows that SWTOR developers are trying to differentiate their content from things that have already been done in previous MMO's. If they make great use of the environment, lighting, and sound in every FP, I'll be a happy camper. Now, if they add even more unique boss mechanics that make use of the environment, I'd be even happier. Edited January 19, 2012 by Naroga
Naroga
A quick bump since things get bumped off the front page while you're writing the post.
Naroga
Silly me. I forgot that the General Forums are not a place for discussion about the game. I'll just keep my opinions and comments to myself.
Daeada
Battle for Kaon Second, tweak the second boss. We beat the encounter on hard-mode having no clue what the mechanics were when we pulled. We blew up the barrels eventually, but he enraged. Despite the enrage, we still killed him because he is easily kiteable. He's supposed to be kiteable, every so often when fighting hi you get a pop up telling you he is frenzying and that you should run. You kite him during the Frenzy. Daeada
Do the barrels break the Frenzy? We thought we had to kite him near them and blow them up, but we didn't notice an immediate effect. They didn't from what I noticed, I think they are just to help negate the potential dps loss during it, so you don't hit the actual enrage. Use spoiler tags, if you consider something a spoiler. Second, if it does break his frenzy, it didn't remove the buff icon on him for my group, which should be changed. ChrisMun
It's a great instance. Enjoyed our hardmode run. Only boss that gave us issues was the bonus boss but we got that covered easy now. The amount of mobs is perfectly fine. Learn to use your CC effectively.
bigbohtah
Too much trash... Really? Be glad you didn't raid in WoW's prime, AQ40 with its 4 hours of trash. Would you prefer if the bosses were just lined up in a row so you could get your free loot even faster? Thinking like this is killing the MMO genre. Lets just hand everyone the best items with no challenge or at least time commitment.
