I'm really enjoying this.

I'm not really much of a forum lurker. I come on here every now and then when I'm able to just to check things out, see what people are talking about.

I know complaining is like the apparent "cool" thing to do when it comes to MMO's, especially during the launch of a new title. I just don't see the issues at all.

Fair enough, I'm not a hardcore player, I only put a couple of hours an evening into the game with my friends, but I for one have to say I'm having an absolute blast. Everything from the story, to the game play to the look, everything is just awesome in my opinion, myself and several friends have not had this much fun in an MMO since the early days of World of Warcraft and we will definitely be staying and paying for our subscription which we believe Bioware have earned tenfold.

I think some of the complaining on here is done for the sake of complaining, I do agree, some bugs can be a bit testing at times, but this is still the first month of an MMO. People seem to forget that when they came over to TOR from WOW (assumption) WOW is a 6 year old game, with all that time to iron out the bugs so it's a much more refined game now but STILL has it's issues. They are asking too much and complaining too often. This is how MMO's are, it takes a bit to get up and running. The people who just can't wait for everything to be perfect, should try coming back in a few months if they aren't happy. I wouldn't expect anyone to spend their hard earned money for something they aren't satisfied with.

In closing, I just felt this forum was in dire need of some positive feedback, I know you're more likely to complain than you are to compliment, that's human nature, I just know there are many many more people out there enjoying the game than there are on here complaining about it.

Remember guys, It's just a game.

Get your popcorn out bro, these forums are a comedic adventure. We've got wise old sages, doomsday sayers, apocalyptic predictions, mythweavers, Profound professors that will tell you that you indeed can turn iron into gold, the boasting warriors, the valiant defenders, Accountants/Numbercrunchers, Mean Folks, Badguys, goodguys. You could honestly write a story out of these forums especially from the many fictions told.

I told my friends about the hilarity that is these forums and the people on them, and they made it VERY clear to me that the WoW forums are EXACTLY the same, if not worse.

It just seems that MMO players REALLY have zero tolerance for any kind of mistake or development.

Its all "I WANT IT NOW! WAAAH! NOW NOW NOW!"

Oh, for sure, had 7 years of this on the SWG forums. It never changes.

I'm just gonna use it as material for YouTube vids. Might as well have some fun at the whiners expence...

WoW forums were like this during the WoW launch... although as far as I know it cleared up months after (besides the usual class imbalance or supposed class imbalance whining).

But what do I know? I haven't played WoW since they implemented battlegrounds.

In fairness to a VERY small proportion of the whiners out there. They have made a lot of very good points and there ARE issues with the game. People need to whine or else the glaring issues will never get brought to the devs attention.

I am patient, I am enjoying the game as is for now, I just fear it cannot last in its current state. Don't get me wrong the game is stupidly fun but only up to a point, and then you'll start wishing the new patches and content updates were being rolled out daily.

Young'n here. I haven't been this happy with any game in ages. Since before Cata in WoW anyway. I dont even play my xbox anymore, it's all TOR. I love the people (in game) and I love the game itself. I dont understand all the whining.

Sure, there are a few problems, but this is an MMO, things always change and grow. I figure when its smoother, I'll be able to kick back and enjoy it all, since Ill be 50 and able to do most things anyway.

Ehm no - people don't NEED to whine, that just makes them look like petulant children and gets the issues ignored.

The way to present any kind of grievance on this forum (and, indeed the internet) seems to be incoherent screaming of hyperbole based in a weird sense of entitlement.

Having no new magic patch to solve all issues dreamed off minutes after some PFY demand it in obscene terms on the forums is not proof that BW doesn't listen. It suggest they can't do magic and probably ignore idiots.

Bingo.

Eve online is one of the few places where there is a very well mannered and constructive community, though even there they kick off from time to time.

Its really not all that shocking. I mean there are what like 20 people in this thread so far?? Even if we all love the game, more then likely each of us has at least one thing about the game we dont like. For example I love the game, but I hate the way companions break into whatever you are doing when they return from a mission.

So if all 20 of us decided to make a post about the thing we dislike most, even though all 20 of us love the game, the general board would be flooded with angry whine post.

then you add in all the trolls and over reactions and bingo bongo a forum is born!

The game is amazing for the first n hours. You sit through every conversation, glued to the screen, agonising over which response your character should give. You marvel at the immense size of places as you stroll through them in awe at their very magnitude. You first pvp experiences are exciting and new, just like your first group instances where you don't know what's around the next corner, or whether that champ will force choke you into submission if you say the wrong thing. You collect some materials, make some items you can actually use, and improve them to be better than anything around you. You send companions out on missions, or watch them cast judgement over your actions and react accordingly...

There's no denying this game has one of the most impressive 'entry level' experiences of any MMO in history. The problem is that beneath the shiney new glow is a gnarled, cracked, festering sore.

The conversations move further away from the teaser choices, as a 'He should pay for his crimes!' choice results in the 'I will kill them all' voicover you've heard dozens of times before, and your justice-loving companion hates you for it. The size stops being impressive, and just becomes an infuriating timesink as you run through area after area with zero interaction, view a cut scene you can't influence, then have to run all the way back through the same 5 loading screens, 3 taxis, and multiple no-mount running areas for no particular reason. PvE instances and Ops are a grind, but at least they're pretty well done and balanced. PVP just had a poorly implemented patch which allowed some factions on some servers to do weeks of work in a couple of hours and indefinitely overpower the opposing faction (among other things). Crafters reach the pinnacle of their chosen profession and realise there's nothing whatsoever that's worth selling at 50, nothing worth making unless you're a Biotech, and all the top level stuff requires drops from raids or flashpoints anyway.

I'm not quitting, but I have cancelled my recurring 6 month sub. I'll probably stump up for another month when the '30 days free' ends, just because I really want this game to improve and am willing to give it more of a chance. Patches since release have done nothing to encourage me to stay though. In fact, quite the opposite. The slicing problem was fixed by nerfing too hard, when it never should've made it through beta. A trivial numbercrunch would've shown the problem and it should've been tweaked to their intended level months ago, rather than a knee-jerk overcompensation. The biotech problem was slightly nerfed, but did nothing to address the fact it's still the only post-50 craft worth taking. Nothing else gives anything whatsoever.

As for the recent pvp changes, they stopped L1-49s being smashed by L50 BMs, but left the L50 non-BMs to get smashed by the L50 BMs. Then they created a boatload more BMs to smash the non-BMs. Instead of putting a couple of afternoons into the pathetic UI for example, they've added new endgame content, expanded ships to accomodate them, etc. I fully understand the need to keep endgamers occupied, but at this stage of the game there are more important fires to put out

I agree completely with the OP, having a great time myself as well. The problem with the forums is the warcraft mindset...its an ez mode game and some players seem to think that EVERY game should be like this. I totally disagree as there are many options for those who are unhappy here. I tell my kids as well "Try it, if you dont like it...move on" this applies to food, games, cloths etc etc And Ill repeat it here...you dont like it go play what makes you happy..if theres nothing that that makes you happy, then you need to shut your piehole and go make your own game and put your money where your mouth is. Go round up a 100mil or so, put together a dev team and go to town. I cant wait to see what you put together.

peace

I have to admit, I've never really been much of a PVPer. I was always slightly annoyed when an MMO I played started having huge changes made for the benefit of PVP that made the PVE side of things change.

And I'm not saying at all that the problems mentioned in this forum time and time again don't exist and I'm sure they are frustrating for those that are experiencing them, but is there really need to complain, whine and moan seemingly all the time about the same things. I'm sure that in reality, Bioware knows what the problems are and are working on them, This is their first ever branch into the world of MMO's and they will learn as they go along. I guess patience is something that's too much to ask for some folk.

TLDR

Kidding aside... I agree with your post. If more people expressed their opinion like that I think less people would mind.

You are correct with the crafting part, although I hate crafting of all forms in all games.

I have yet to play any flashpoints except for BT only when I first started just to see how it was setup. My PvP experience on my Marauder has been pretty good, gear is not hard at all to get and as long as you do daily and weeklys you can get champion gear quick.

I agree completely on Ilum. This morning was the first time I bothered going to that planet (at least to the PvP region) and the first thing I seen was Valor farming (I will admit I took part in it until my valor got to about 30, I think it was around 23 when I started) It only took like 40 minutes or less to get 7 levels of valor... pathetic.

It is not going to make me quit the game. I will give Bioware the benefit of the doubt and subscribe until their next two big content releases. If things are not improved upon immensely I may just do a few more class stories and call it after that... after all by than Diablo 3 will be out so I won't be crying a river too much.
