How fun are Sages in PvP?

I'm kind of interested in them. Are the fun to play in PvP? Does it get frustrating being targeted, interrupted, and stunned all the time? I'm deciding what to roll next and Sage is near the top of my list.

Also, when do you get your shield? Does PvP get exponentially better with it?

I've only tried it at 11, and I know it's going to suck being that low with barely any spells. It just sucked being interrupted non-stop. Felt like a sitting duck.

I honestly find that as a damage-over-time Balance spec Sage, that I'm ignored most of the time as people are either under the impression that I'm not doing much or they just don't see me stacking DoTs on them at 20 meters. Either way, they end up going down really fast with weaken mind, mind crush, project and TK throw and I'm only level 24.

I feel that I've been doing good damage since level 18, but it's only getting better. Earlier I used to spend a lot of time healing peeps but now I feel that i can finally hold my own. Also the periodic damage healing plus Force in Balance definitely increases my survivability when I am targeted.

I've had a few warzones where I'm in the top 5 or 6 in damage, and I feel pretty good about that considering all the level 50s that were running around. Alternatively, it's also true that I often get canned when I'm focused.

Overall I love the Sage in PVP. I use a lot of line of sight and sneaking around, but that's how I like to play. Out of the fray.

I agree with the above poster. Balance is definitely a fun spec in PvP. Very mobile, good dps, lots of control. You get the shield at level 14 I think so not too far from where you are. Although I don't find I'm targeted more than anyone else in DPS spec and with all the tools we have like shield, cc break, force speed, stun, cc, knockback, etc., we can get away from them and be a real PITA. Sure you'll get stunlocked to death sometimes but so does everyone else, but I think we have more tools at our disposal than some other classes. Edited by Leiloni

  1. Sit in the back and drop bombs.
  2. Pick out that assassin that tried to kill you and pummel him nonstop till he dies.
  3. Die to an Operative combo on the ground before you can get up.

Pretty much this. I would add to this, learn to interrupt and be a general pain in the butt. Stacking dots on multiple targets means you often cap dps and healing. You are the ultimate crowd controller but as squishy as an over ripe tomato in a fail pvp group.

I was a healer from 1 to 47 and respecced to balance and oh boy, if I had known that not being a healer would actually IMPROVE my survivability (how's that for crazy?) I would have played balance from the beginning.

It is definitely loads of fun. The drawback is that there are lots of sages in some warzones, so you might get the feeling you're playing a FOTM class.

Normally it's fun, because you can last longer than other classes. I'm a healer, so i try to do that, while helping a bit with DPS when I can. But as stated above, you can become the target of the other team fast, and if your peeps don't help out, I mean there is little you can do with two people on you and now help.

I played Hutt Ball a few nights ago, and it was basically just the same 2-3 people targeting me with now help. And yes, we lost that game pretty badly.

So true, especially number 3

Just remember you can sprint backwards and you have multipel slows if anyone gets too close;)

Against average players I can do quite well as a Seer spec. Against a 4-man premade DPS focus fire (averaging 500 dps each in the end-of-match report). I am frequently the only healer when I queue up, and even with someone guarding me, 2000+ dps is going to drop me by the time I blink. Trooper seems to be superior in many ways, from having heavy armor to also having abilities that boost their healing significantly and make them uninterruptable.

Its a blast, till you encounter the team that prioritizes sages cause they know our danger and because we are squishy.

If they get you cc'locked its over, or if your force speed and bubble are down. Otherwise you speed, bubble, turn and begin again.

As far as the Op knockdown, yeah it sucks, but the cc breaker (if up of course) does let you begin casting again before you are even up, stun or wave, mow him down, really surprises them.

If you are playing solo, it's fun as DPS, but not fun as a dedicated healer.

As a healer, as several posters above pointed out, if you go up against a solid player (or heaven forbid a group) who knows you're a threat, you will be shut down, and your life will be miserable.

As DPS (Balance in particular), you have enough CC reasonably to handle multiple targets, enough tools to escape sticky situations, and sufficient DPS to blow up single targets that have a crush on you. You can also toss out helpful supplemental heals. I usually do between 75-150k healing in WZ's as DPS (and usually have about a 3:1 damage-to-healing ratio).

Bottomline, only spec Seer if you plan to play in a group (and even then, expect to be frustrated by solid premades). Otherwise, pick a DPS spec and enjoy.

I'm playing as a pure healer (it's the role I always play in MMOs whether solo or with a guild) and it's tough to say. When you get the support you need to do your job and not get rofl-stomped then it's great. When you don't, it's not.

But then again that's what life as a healer is like in any game. It's quite fun and often rewarding.

well as an operative healer I get frustrated by 3 as well. Substitute smuggler or enemy response to seeing an operative not in stealth and retaliation for 3.

because I primarily do melee damage and lack a closer outside of stealth I will say seer's ability to get range if you don't have #3 to open big is very handy, the shield slow and snares is a pretty darn effective combo when played right. And the dot specs can make you wish your cleanse didn't have a CD.

Solid class vulnerable like any healer to gang tackling.

I can agree to what my fellow pvp seers have already said, like that you are very squishy if focused by a good premade and that ignored you can put out some serious healing. I'd like to add that pvp healing requires you to be constantly on the move and aware of all your tools in your skill arsenal, especially the CC ones. You really will need them, because as pointed out, expect to be targeted a lot once people notice you healing.

Once it is obvious that I go down within a blink the fun part begins. Hiding behind pillars, throwing out heals, jump back into cover, stun the charging marauder, force lift that healing sorc in the back, use force speed to dive for that healing orb or run beind a LoS object to fire off your conveyance boosted big heal...you get the picture. You have to give it all to be useful and stay alive, but it is also very rewarding imo. If you happen to have someone huard you your survivability goes up even more.

So in short: Having lots of fun with my sage healer in pvp, just like I had with my disci priest in WoW. Plays pretty much the same :)
