Great job on the anti-aliasing

Can't tell if the developers are completely incompetent or are just trolling their subscriber base.

Pro tip: don't start off your patch notes with the addition of a feature you didn't actually add.

The anti-aliasing feature has no effect on my game's graphic no matter what setting is selected, and I am not running the one card this is a "known issue" with (I'm running a Radeon HD 5870).

Yes it does. You're either trolling or looking at the wrong thing. It's been pretty well proven at this point in other threads that, except for on particular card (not yours), it works.

It certainly works for me, and even in screenshots from people trying to "prove" it doesn't work, you can see that it does.

Works for me. It's a pretty low grade improvement, equivalent to maybe 2x AA, but it's a definite improvement, even if only slight.

Why they couldn't add all the different levels for people to chose from is beyond me (i.e 4x 8x 16x etc).

i just read someone claiming that it was the 6900s with the AA issue, but the 5870 is the precursor to the 6970 so it may suffer from the same issues. To be honest i am not sure how the hardware interacts with the drivers, but you do have a very similar card to the 6900 series so it would not be a stretch to say you could be suffereing from a related issue.

Regardless they are working with AMD to get it sorted.

Good luck!

Also you can easily go into the Catalyst control center and force AA, it will make a huge difference!

Works like a charm for me. I turned off the forced AA I was using, as it caused some FPS issues that I no longer have now that I'm using the in-game AA.

As a side note, it works just fine for all my friends as well, and we all use different cards, so maybe the problem is on your end?

Ok, I'll say this here as well as the other thread -

High simply adds the following argument to the game_client.ini

Anti_Aliasing = 1

the 1 argument, simply means means AA is on, but it requires the graphics card to tell it what sample rate AA must run at. So if in your GFX Control Panel you have say AA set to APP Controlled, you wont see any change. If you have it set to 4x AA the = 1 in the Game_Client.ini uses this information and renders AA at 4x Sample Rate.

If you set AA to LOW or OFF the game_client.ini adds the following

Anti_Aliasing = 0

this means AA is off, no matter what, including ignoring any GFX CP settings. Those pay attention may have noticed I included LOW here too, yes thats right LOW does nothing.

If you want AA to work you either need to do one of two things -

Set AA to HIGH in game, then in your GFX CP force APP Override and set AA to 2,4,6,8 or 16 etc

OR

Edit the game_client.ini and change anti_aliasing to read

Anti_Aliasing = 4 (for 4x sample rate, you can set it to 2, 6, 8 or whatever you like. Save the file, then set the game_client.ini to read only so SW cant write to it.

You should now have AA running.

AA Low does do something. There are screenshots proving that it does.

The lines of pixels are expanded, you can noticed this on the neck and on the top of the head. It is a slightly smoother curve.

To give you all some more insight, the ATI issue is due to a severe graphical glitch and we are in discussions with ATI to resolve this. Thank you for your patience.

What I would like to know is this...

If there's some severe graphical glitch that requires interaction w/ ATI, why is it not present if people force the AA in their Catalyst control panel?

only thing noticable thing for me was it made the shadows look like shadows instead of scribbles. Still it doesn't seem to effect my fps at all so why not have it on.

Load times are maybe a few secs longer but not that big a deal. Nvidia user btw.
