Nerfing Crew Skills? Hey BW, how about synopsis & vote

Maybe I am in the minority, but I fail to see why BW does not implement some kind of voting system prior to nerfing activities. I know those fan votes can lead to some crazy outcomes, but at least it gives players the opportunity to be heard on a specific issue. I know the likely BW comeback: "That is what forums are for." This is far from the case for most players, as forums are primarily used to complain/gripe, and rarely do questions like "Did you(BW) think about x prior to this?" get answered. Why not create a BW controlled "nerf" synopsis and allow players to discuss and then vote on whether a change is needed? You can control message and give the facts better than any of us, so I don't see how this couldn't work to provide better feedback from us.

 

In a recent nerf, you summarized that "a small minority of players did not have access to some endgame content [because of the OP'd crew skill]." Would that minority win a fan vote? Probably not, but it still gives you an idea how fans approach a subject prior to the alienation felt after post-nerf "explainations" given. It also provides a fan with an alternate route to make contributions w/o the use of forums. BW, YOU have access to every account and can easily notifiy players of an important server/SWTOR.com issue. Why not add "change votes" to the mix?

 

 

Just a thought to keep ALL PLAYERS at the forefront of your changes...

A number of reasons.

 

1. The forums are NOT an accurate representation of general community opinion, in any game. A certain type of person is drawn to the forums, and even then, people perfectly content with the game are usually busy playing it, not trolling the forums.

 

2. People will choose immediate gratification over long term benefit every time. If there was a vote that every man, woman, and child get a million dollars, even with the effects being nothing but disaster, it would pass. Not enough people would see the problems to vote themselves out of a million dollars.

 

Because of this, we trust in people who aren't benefiting one way or the other to keep the game balanced. Unfortunately, I don't think the BW devs understand what people look for/want in an MMO beyond the PvE aspect. Both crafting and pvp are being botched.

They patch note statement just blew my mind. I am paraphrasing 'we wanted to ensure that all crafting skills were just as much fun, so instead of making the unpopular ones more fun we have nerfed the popular ones'

 

My point exactly. I mean while the whole "When is BioChem getting nerfed thread was ongoing, BW should/could have chimed in and gave the pros and cons of what they were planning to do. Instead, they just do it and expect players to just "trust" them that is was needed. Not only that, but then posts that has words like "minority" and "small amounts" make me feel like they are not catering to the majority of players. We all pay to play, new customers are like your life-blood. I am a new customer and I have yet to see BW answer some questions about why buff were not done instead of nerfs. If it's easier, then just say so, but with the massive complaints about the other professions, I dont see how an explaination of why the others were not buffed could cause harm.

 

 

At the heart of the issues I guess my question to Georg, and others is:

 

WHAT IS YOUR STANCE ON NERFS VERSUS BUFFS AND WHY?

 

 

 

This would at lease give players a chance to see if there is light at the end of the tunnel and whether players really do control the game...
