Can someone explain the Legacy system to me?

I currently have a lvl 25 Jedi Guardian and I'd like to start a new Imperial Agent character, but I'm wondering if I should wait for my Jedi to unlock the legacy system before creating a new character, does it make a difference? how does the legacy system work exactly, and what does it do?

thanks.

You'll have to wait until March to find out what the Legacy system entails. There is no information on it currently, just teasers about how it might add to character creation and/or character customization.

EDIT: Right now, the Legacy system does absolutely nothing, aside from giving you your Legacy title, and a new Legacy Experience Bar. Since we won't even know what the heck the Legacy system is until March, it might not be worth waiting. I don't even know if the Legacy system will be released in March, or if March is simply when we will first get information on what it will be.

Apparently it hurts nothing to go ahead and level as you desire. Just understand that your legacy name will be either a title under your regular name if you choose or you can select to have it as a sub title under your name. Be sure to pick a name you want to stick with. Good luck

The Legacy System works like this:

1) You finish Act 1 on one of your characters (at approx level 30-32).

2) You pick a Legacy name. You can display this legacy name on ALL of your characters on that server as: a) a "last" name, b) an underslung title, aka "The NAME Legacy", or c) not at all.

3) Every single character on that server contributes XP to a legacy XP bar (which shows up underneath your regular XP bar). You gain Legacy levels just like you gain regular levels, except that you have only one bar for all your characters on a server, and they all share it.

4) The Legacy System does nothing else. Having Legacy Level 15 is pointless right now.

To your main question:

It really does not matter if you wait or don't wait because the system does nothing. If you want to accumulate legacy XP from your alts, finish Act 1 on your main. If you realize Legacy XP is useless, go ahead and play what you have fun with, regardless of whether or not you have your Legacy name already.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. Do as you please, but if you're going to start more alts, maybe get one toon to the end of chapter 1 first. Pretty sure that the Legacy system is not going to live up to the hype, because it'd be hard for anything to live up to the hype without details that they've given. If you've always wanted an "official, from the game company acknowledgement that two of your characters are related," then it will be everything you've dreamed of. Otherwise, meh. I just want something that encourages me to level my alts, but I'm also pretty sure that Bioware hasn't even decided on what it will be yet.

What I mean is should I wait to unlock my Legacy title before creating my 2nd character...to start getting legacy XP with both character...or it doesn't change anything and I'm not understanding this correctly

Once you unlock your legacy on any one character, all your characters start earning legacy XP - even if you created the character before you created your legacy.

On the other hand, if your main character is close to unlocking their legacy you might want to wait until you've unlocked it before making your second character so that you get legacy xp from the start on that character.
