Just more of them would be better, more choice and that "listening station" mission is just too long.. I mean 7 mins c'mon, You have covered all the missions objectives after the 3rd minute and then you hope to just leave it on fly/autopilot until it ends without hitting something.

You would not believe the endless discussions... insanely many threads long, there has been since it was announced as a rail shooter during development.

Alot of people really wanted this (x-wing style space combat), me included. But but but, they are announcing some change or addition to space combat which should arrive soon, so no need to go into a complete discussion on the topic before we know what it is. Since "some" kinda change is in fact coming.

see my main thing is i was an ace combat nut. (I have every ace combat ever released from the ps1 to the xbox 360) and when i had got a hold of battlefront 2 and found the control similarities...i know the computer AI was like WTH IS WITH THIS GUY??? IS WEDGE ANTILLES BEHIND THAT CONTROLLER? xD but yeah if it changes within an expansion (I pray to all the gods out there) I seriously hope there will be space pvp.

As far as a minigame (and let's face it, that's what it is!) I would say it's pretty good quality, for me it is a nice warm up before I get into proper questing on the ground (and to get me into a sci-fi mood!).

Agreed. Complaining about space missions is like complaining about the quality of the Plants vs. Zombies game in WoW.

That said... did they really need to recycle so many levels?

The main problem IS that it is a minigame.... it's star wars, space is a must and some place along the line they are gonna have to expand it to an x-wing style game with multiplayer capabilities to properly reflect the universe they are depicting. (if not x-wing then some other style thats more extensive than the current)

I agree. SWG space combat missions were fun. SWTOR space comat missions are NOT fun.

An X-wing or Wing Commander-like combat addition to space combat would be awesome if done like the award winning Lucas Arts games of similar ilk. In their day, these X-wing games were financially successful.

Chris Robertt's games like Star Citizen have always been excellent space exploration and combat platforms with wonderful stories. A space saga like FasterThan Light's Sun Dog will allow the player to be a bounty hunter, space trader, smuggler, pilot mercenary, military pilot, pirate, and any other profession that allows the player to survive, increase a multitude of inter-related faction stats, character-avatar atributes and skills, cash, items, ship upgrades, increase in rank, etc.. I love tese games.

I do like the idea of adding turrets and multi-player similar to the "Pirates of the Carribean Online" game where players can jump into and out of any active space battle at any time. This would re-vitalize the SWTOR space battles. I do not see why SWTOR cannot do both the multplayer, turrets and x-wing combat in the space battles. Perhaps this add on could be a player paid for expansion?

I want SWTOR to succeed.

I think two changes are in order that, at least in my opinion, would vastly improve the appeal of the feature.

1) Add in turret and multiplayer features to the current feature.

The idea is to add turrets to every ship, then allow players to group with you and run the missions together. They could man turrets and fire at enemy ships. I would say two turrets per ship, one dorsal and one ventral would do the trick.

Also, they should add the ability for other players to join you in the tube in their own ship. This way two or three players could fly along with you in the mission and help.

2) Add a persistent Battlefront 2 style space battleground

This would add free flight, the ability to pilot your ship or fighters, allow you to land on enemy capital ships and fight on foot, and also allow for PVE objectives to be added to non-PVP areas of the map.

In my opinion adding this kind of mechanic would be a boon for the game.

Galaxies had it right when it came to space combat. Space combat in swtor appears to be an after thought. What an insult to the star wars universe. Very disappointing given the very good work on character development and storyline. It is clear to me this is an area where the developers dropped the ball. Was this done on purpose?

Galaxies allowed one to craft your own space ship and do missions for reward like ground based story line.. Boy if they were really serious about pleasing the client base they should spend the time and effort developing space missions, space combat and space ship crafting. A greater ship selection should be a first priority. The defender is an ugly design. What ship has a stairway to fall into right down the middle, really. Did anyone ever think that one of the other designs might be more appealing? Oh, what does it matter, the selection is not that great anyway and it's just an scared space battle anyway. Very lame given the demonstrated potential in other areas old the game!

I have to agree. Space Combat needs an overhaul. It's sad that a game of this caliber has the space combat engine used in Lego Star Wars. Not to put LSW down in anyway, I enjoy that game too, but a free roam open world roaming game could easily throw in the space mechanics of the old Lawrence Holland games.

I also miss the random fighter attacks while transiting between planets in the original SWKOTOR. Would certainly make space combat more interesting.

Expansion

....will not add anything OP considers an overhaul.

Apparently there are things being worked on as far as space goes. (SSSP)

But according to Mr. Hickman that's waaaaaaaaaay off. That may mean sometime this year, but it also means any other time. All we can do right now is wait and see.

I suggested that they should add multiplayer to the current feature, both turret play for folks in your group on your ship, and also the ability for other players to join you in the pipe in their own ship.

I also think they should add a BF2 style persistent space battleground with PVE and PVP elements.

A BioWare representative said that a certain feature was in the works? Well, I guess we should take them at their word, like we did for all those other broken promises.

I'll believe the "Super Secret Space Project" exists when I see it actually make it into the game. Until that day, I will assume BioWare has little if any intention of moving forward with the project. They don't deserve the benefit of the doubt, given their track record.
