Midnight Maintenance Thoughts

Recommended Posts

I just wanted to ask if 12pm PST maintenance is temporary for now while they deal with lots of patching or if this is going to be *boom* SWTOR maintenance forever at 12pm?

I have raided later then midnight plenty of times and with the frequency of the patches (which I assume will diminish to a regular weekly patch) I just wonder if maybe like 2-3 AM wouldnt be a better time.

I know you guys live in Austin, Texas (why though I have no idea I mean seriously you could get better tax incentives in western canada, ask ea, and you wouldnt have to live in the butthole of the western world, intellectually speaking) but maybe frank or ted could forego a few hours of beauty sleep and let the 40 million of us raid a bit later.

You have absolutely no idea what Austin is like, do you? There is one intellectual mecca in Texas, and that is Austin.

Well the patching is planed to take 8 hours.

So starting at 12am PST means ending at 4pm GMT. If they wait until say 2am PST, then that means not being done until 6pm GMT.

I think the people in Europe have enough of their day cut as it is, but sure why not push it until 8 or 9pm GMT, not like anyone in Europe actually wants to play at all.

Try being European where it happens up to 8pm at night.

I hope they change it, but I doubt they will.

They NEED to separate the maintenances based on locale. It isn't unprecedented and if it "can't be done" then that is just shoddy development on Bioware's part. At that point (IMO), they should push the US maintenance back about 2 hours. Yes, this could result in servers being down at 10 or 11 AM on the east coast, but I would wager that despite the rest of the world being up at that time, there are probably more people online in the video game community at 12 AM PT than there are at 11 AM ET.

Once the Aussie servers are added, what do they plan to do then??

Also, good job dragging your post down in to the mud. Just simply based on your ignorant viewpoint (it means you don't know *** you're talking about and base your opinion on hearsay), I would wager that the average intellect in Austin is greater than your own.

I thought it was the Bush compound. Ba-Zing!

Haha. I will admit that is funny. Actually, Austin is the only speck of Blue in a sea of Red. Meaning, Austin is a very liberal, socially conscious, and intellectual city. If you've ever been here, or heard the rumors, Austin is considered to be more like San Francisco or a mini-Los Angeles than it is a part of Texas. It's a college town, home of the University of Texas...and a bit of an artsy-fartsy indie kid's mecca. Whether that is a good thing to you or not, well it's a matter of personal opinion. But as an Austin resident for about 10 years now, I can assure you we don't typically associate ourselves with the rest of Texas. ;)

Edit: Let me rephrase "don't associate with the rest of Texas". It's not so much that we snub our noses at our own state, as everyone in Texas has SOME measure of community pride. Our motto in Austin, which you will find on every other car or truck's bumper sticker and on billboards around the entire town is "Keep Austin Weird". There is a reason for that. We are one the quirkiest cities you will find, not just in Texas, but in the entire country. So that should tell you something you probably didn't consider when lumping is into some fantasized re-run of the Dallas soap opera.

Tuesday is probably the only time when i get to play all day (with brakes of course :sul_angel:)

It'd be nice if the server downtime was in the AM (GMT) rather than in the day. I guess they can't please us all though.

Actually, Dallas is a blue city as well. Most of the "less inhabited" and southern areas of Texas (i.e. Houston) are staunch Republican, but Dallas is Democrat and Austin is Lib. Anyone who has actually been to most of Texas' major cities knows that they are worlds apart the same way that San Fran is different than San Diego, or NYC is different from, say, Philly.

The midnight downtime really sucks. I can't believe that they think it makes sense or is ok to have downtime at midnight on an MMO. I usually log in at like 9-10 pm on weekdays, and play til like 2 am. Why would they bring down the servers in a lot of peoples prime time???

They need to split the downtime so that the US can have reasonable downtime and the EU can have it's own reasonable downtime. Why are we in the west coast of the US punished with downtime cause it will cut into EU daytime gameplay? that is 6-8,000 miles away.

Couldnt agree with you more, we in Europe would love to have seperate maintenance, as most EU countries are not on GMT, and ending maintenance at 4pm GMT is cutting into prime time gaming for those countries, come summer time even the UK wont be on GMT when alot of us move 1hr forward for Daylight Savings Time

Then of course what happens when maintenance gets extended, which often happens in mmos when they are implementing decent sized patches, we have already had one that was extended well into our prime time.

Im sure that the Oceanic folks would love some of them US servers to have been labelled Oceanic and have their maintenance set to their time zones too.

But sadly it seems that the times are set to stay :(

They are clearly moving it around to be fair to everyone. Which do not mind at all. Be nice if they moved 1 hour each downtime. That way everyone in the world get same deal.

BTW I'm in the US but feel for my Friends around the world too.

NOne of the patches have had anything i am waiting for, so it makes the 8 hour long downtime seem longer. They have back-end fixes and stuff, but nothing on my game wish list so far. Not even mentioned yet actually..

Anyway, yeah, it's long 8 hours if you have free time.

Yes....Houston is such a staunch Republican stronghold...

BTW, Houston has a gay mayor (she does a good job too and I'm one of those nasty, stupid republicans). Intellectually speaking, Houston is one of the largest scientific and medical hubs in the entire world.

Hello people.

Europe is gonna have the downtime during the day. Until 17:00.

Wanna swap?

I'd much rather have maintenance during the day. Like most people who work, it doesn't effect me if the game's offline at 5:00pm. If it shuts down at midnight? Well, then there's a really good chance I'll get kicked out of the game early, like I do every time there's a maintenance.

So, yeah, I'd love to swap. But I'm not going to raise a stink about Bioware trying to make sure we're all playing the same game, and picking a time for updates that effects the smallest number of people possible to accomplish that. Makes sense to me.

Yes. I ONLY play after midnight. I'm not on at all during the day. I'm at work. So yes, daytime maint would be perfect.

The maint hours for this game are rapidly turning me off of the game. I'm giving it a couple more weeks but if this keeps up, I will quit based on this issue alone. It is a dealbreaker.
