I was really hoping the "escape pod" exit on my ship would allow me to land directly on the planet, and bypass the station, but no joy..

I agree this is annoying. This game in general feels more like a labyrinth of stringed together zones than it's own unique universe anyawys. I't s a real problem. I think BioWare should have put a lot less emphasis on interplanetary travel and just stuck to designing maybe one or two planets that actually gave the impression of a planet, instead of making all of these zones inside of zones inside of zones. It doesn't make the game feel any bigger to be honest anyawys. In fact, it has the opposite effect with a lot of annoying load screens on the side. DarkSeverance
Some of them are waypoints for class specific or side mission quests. They are also probably for future expansions or updates that would utilize them. It is a good way to open up moons, space stations or other missions within that same planetary system. oredith
it adds so much flavor to the game! it simulates the frustration of a real life airport so well.. maybe a click delay on the shuttle boarding would perfect the immersion
HoneyBoy
It's immersion. Remember in Revenge of the Sith when Mace Windu was going to arrest Palpatine and they had to wait on the elevator to take them up to the Supreme Chancellor's office? Symptomatic
Yeah I don{t really get it and is probably in my top 5 of least favorite things. Someone tried to claim that is was for immersion. That the orbital stations were required so people could land all thier ships and not [clutter[ the world. To that I say nonsense, the world is bigger, I don;t need immersion, zone a landing pad like you do in major cities and in orbital stations on the planet... tsbond
Too slow you down. Almost as bad as those droid comments, but nah the droid is the worst thing in game. Edited January 17, 2012 by tsbond
Die_Scream
Pain, suffering, tedium, hell, ragequit. These are the biggest words in Bioware's travel time word cloud at the office.
TheCynic
They couldn't figure out how to get 2 people onto 1 ship by just clicking a door on a dropship/elevator is my guess. OTOH, Ive had 1(one) quest on my JC and 1(one) quest on my IA that took place in either the airlock or hanger so at least they aren't 100% useless, just 99.99999999999999999998%
wutru
The intended purpose is for immersion, which is so ridiculous. I'd rather have content designed for enjoyment than hinderance because of the fallacy of immersion.
Shanerion
Yah these orbital stations are ridiculous. Just blatant time wasting travel... it's annoying as hell. Why in god's name can you not mount in the orbital stations?

Agammamon
. . .Someone tried to claim that is was for immersion. To that I say nonsense, the world is bigger, I don;t need immersion, zone a landing pad like you do in major cities and in orbital stations on the planet... And the surface is a bunch of strung together zones anyway - it can't be too hard just to instance into the ship at the *spaceport*. Especially since some planets allow us to land directly anyway. I just went to Ord Mantell and not only is it the same situation, its the EXACT SAME station.
