HeIIspawn
I was thinking about the concept of pvp in a rpg game and why it is not working in any game to be honest. One of the basic ideas and why people play rpgs is because of character developement. Its nice to see the character becoming stronger and stronger and find better and better gear. When you reach max level you can find better and better gear until you have the best gear available and since you put alot of effort into this ofcourse you want your char to be a little stronger than someone who did not put this amount of time into their characters. On the other hand everyone want to be king in thei own virtual world. For players that also have real life going on they cant compete with the hadcores and ofcourse its not fun to be the dude that always get smacked. If you put alot of time into grinding your char/equip you want to have benefits and if there should be a matchmaking that always put you up against players of the same item level no matter how much you grind you will still just be the average joe in the pvp match. Here I think the FPS are way ahead of the mmorpg scene. Here you can go the other way since its all about skill.. Here players can start with the best weapons and then unlock worse weapons because it gives more credit to dominate a game with a bad weapon than a good weapon. I love to go knife hunting in fps.. what is more embarrasing than to be stabbed to death when you are running around with the latest state of the at machinegun? Or the weapons are all so powerful they kill in 2 hits.. it doesnt really matter which one you choose but they mabe sound a little different o behave a little different so you can chose either without beeing at disadvantage, just find the one that suits your playstyle. In a mmorpg it would not be so fun to start out with excalibur and end up with a rusty dagger... In sprpg its a different story, there you can be the king if you put the effort into your char but that will never happen in mmopgs. Well I have to give some cred to wow actually even tough they dumbed it down to a childs level, the char control is extremly responsive and it becomes a skillgame.. but they totally ruined the value of epics in the process... but I guess that is the price you have to pay if you want skill to dominate the outcome of pvp.
