Farming your own faction

In Huttball, spending the first 3-4 minutes scoring 5 easy goals, then spending the entire rest of the match at the enemy goal line instagibbing anyone who steps off the platform.

Look, we all understand you are awesome. We praise your ability to rush to 50 and queue together. Please release us from servitude to your egos, wise masters.

On a less snarky note, how significant is the difference in Valor/Comms than if you just won and re-queued? Does farming a team for the entire length of Huttball give more Valor/Comms than steamrolling 2 games quickly?

It is more satisfying to farm the enemy.

Also, the queue times are long on my server so I think it actually gives most commendation/minute.

More importantly you many times do not get "Win credit" for daily/weekly by capping out a Huttball.

I've seen that argument. To me, it makes sense that a contributor to the long queue times are indeed people farming Hutball. If people ended the game quickly, the queue times should be drastically reduced.

Who gives a crap about comms? Yes, I do that. I score 5, take the ball, go to the enemy spawn and farm them really hard. I need 11 medals and in order to do that I need to do AoE to get my 300k, which works miracles when fired upon people leaving the spawn. You, the farmed boys, can do the same. Fire a couple of shots before going down and you'll get there. Get your healing medals if you can. Try to get 10 kills. Whatever. I need valor to get to level 60 and 800 Valor / game and then another 5 minutes in the queue just won't do.

Kalantris

Rush to 50? How long are people going to use that as some kind of negative thing. You've had PLENTY of time to get to 50 by now. Also, I happily farm my own faction. You know why? The medal system encourages it. I'll farm lowbies for 300k damage and I'll toss them the ball to get defender points. It's all about the medals. Don't hate the player, hate the game.

That was the question, though, wasn't it? Do you actually earn more by farming lowbies then you do winning twice as many matches? If so, the system needs to be changed in some way so as to discourage unsportsmanlike behavior, in my opinion. Luckily, Bioware agrees with me to a degree, or at least recognizes a contributor to the issue, in that level 50 queues are on the way. Obviously it won't get rid of the problem completely, as instead of farming lowbies, you guys will now be farming the fresh 50s who join while you are all kitted out fairly well... but it wont be to the same degree.

lol @ rush to 50

Grats on casual. Now shhhhhhh.

Depends on perspective, now doesn't it? Is this is a game for hardcore players or casuals?

As a casual, yes, if you are 50 you rushed. As a hardcore player, then I agree, 50 would have been easy.

Doesn't invalidate my point, however.

I am only level 35 and havent made it to the end and got the better gear and worry about the 300k damage medals. But I still vote for farming if it can be done, always have. I average about 6-7 medals at my lower level because I am a juggernaut who throws himself into the fray, uses guard and threatening scream like crazy, then actually uses his 3 min cooldown uber tank abilities to stay alive long enough to collect a bunch of protection points. I get these medals wether we win or lose so guess what... I could care less if we even win.

I dont even care if the ball carrier makes it to the end, I just throw guard on him for the protection points. When I get to 50 I will be just like these guys, dont care if we get the win right away, I am gonna farm and protect anyone who gets me my medals.

For now I play a bit of PVP and do my ship battles daily to break up the boring nevernding questing on the planets.

Yes, it's more rewarding and on top of that comes the fact that 6-0 wins usually don't count as wins in your daily/weekly.

I've never been in a match where my team start farming, we straight up play to win.

Best thing BW could do is ban blatant farmers that aren't trying to score, then they should add a surrender command so people can close down buggy or farming matches fast.

I pvp to pvp. Scoring a touchdown is only tangentially related to pvp.

That's a very narrow view of pvp. For me, pvp is anything that involves me winning while someone else loses. Winning the match is one thing that qualifies. Killing a member of the opposing team may be too, but sometimes it's not, e.g. when it's because he succeeded in pulling me away from the objective his buddy was capping.

The current system rewards farming medals, which is not really pvp, as there is no penalty for the other side. If they are farming as well, they are also getting medals. Me killing one guy for my damage medal may at the same time earn another guy on their team a protection medal, and yet another guy on their team a healing medal, and so on. That's not really pvp, that's cooperative farming.

I understand your frustration, but this is basically how it works. There are certain medals that encourage prolonging the game and farming the enemy team. They are:

75k damage

300k damage

10 kills

25 kills

1k defender points

3k defender points

Of these, the defender ones encourage the most heinous behavior. In huttball, you get them by killing the ball carrier. What's the easiest way to do this? Group up and wait for some fool from the enemy team to go on the offensive (there are always one or two heroes) and toss them the ball. You then quickly kill them and wait for the next victim. It's pretty funny and it's efficient.

Also, 50% of the time the stupid daily/weekly quest won't update when you win so there is no point to rushing victory.

I understand the decision to farm medals, and from what I gathered it's done for Valor. I suppose the question is whether or not the medals provide more Valor, per time, than earning half the medals but winning twice as many times? I suppose the onlyt way to test it would be to get a premade together and run matches all day, half the time farming and half winning asap.

If it's the case that farming provides more benefit, the system should be revised in my opinion. It serves only to demoralize.
