IPaq
I just thought i would post from the other end of the spectrum. I have an older system, around 2-3 years old. q8400 gts250 3.25gb of ram because im still on 32 bit winxp Running on medium to high settings with shadows off. The game runs very satisfactory to me, 50-60 fps constant when I'm out questing and the same goes for warzones as well. my fps drops to 15ish on the imperial fleet but I think thats because I'm on a heavy server and theres always hundreds of people in there standing around. If my old system can run this without problems and people with monster machines cant then the problem is without a doubt on their end. Some guy with a 10k putter was running out of memory and using older drivers Try this, play with grass lvl. On my nVidia GTX 560 TI, there is something on Quesh that was making my GPU car sick =D. I found it was due to draw distance and grass... as usual too much grass is bad for you.
Mineria
Just something to compare the high end systems against, max drop on fleet is down to 80fps, else at 111fps. ------------------ System Information ------------------ Time of this report: 1/17/2012, 18:33:52 Machine name: MyPC Operating System: Windows 7 Professional 64-bit (6.1, Build 7601) Service Pack 1 (7601.win7sp1_gdr.110622-1506) Language: Danish (Regional Setting: Danish) System Manufacturer: System manufacturer System Model: System Product Name BIOS: BIOS Date: 02/05/10 19:13:52 Ver: 08.00.10 Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-2600K CPU @ 3.40GHz (8 CPUs), ~3.4GHz Memory: 16384MB RAM Available OS Memory: 16360MB RAM Page File: 3281MB used, 13077MB available Windows Dir: C:\Windows DirectX Version: DirectX 11 DX Setup Parameters: Not found User DPI Setting: Using System DPI System DPI Setting: 96 DPI (100 percent) DWM DPI Scaling: Disabled DxDiag Version: 6.01.7601.17514 64bit Unicode ------------ DxDiag Notes ------------ Display Tab 1: No problems found. mechanical disk and most raid arrays for that sake. Besides that there are several things on my Windows Installation that are not standard, like no Paging File(been running without for ages), no SuperFetch, Prefetch, System Restore (using a backup app instead), Indexing etc. I also did change a bit on the TCP/IP stack to favor low latency over high bandwidth, doesn't hit my bandwidth hard and removes any lag spikes from my own network and interaction with the servers. I played a bit around with a disk cache app named FancyCache,(works a bit like the cache found on server raid arrays) it does help a lot on the loading times when it gets enough memory to eat. Looking a bit over the reports from people who got problems, could some of Microsoft's stuff have issues with the game? Since I can run the game pretty well on a business laptop (Lenovo SL510 with a HD4870) without big issues using the same tweaks as on my desktop. If so, there must be a way to work around these issues in the game engine code.
soulofice
rant much? The reality is that your 'minimum requirements' are just that. They are MINIMUM. If you have a PC (or laptop) that meets MINIMUM requirements, you're going to be able to play MINIMALLY (ie: 10 FPS). Get over it. You should learn to read!!! I dont have issues what i am saying is the system req on the box says if you have this then you can play the game not load play! so for you sorry bout your bad look tosser comment. Idont have any issues my friends do with way better systems then me my m17x r3 has more issues then my gateway pos go figure:D
IPaq
Well that was fun. Troll +1. Since EA/BW thinks those kind of threads are fine and dandy. Enjoy. PS: Going back to my 110FPS and will stop trying to share any information.
soulofice
Well that was fun. Troll +1. Since EA/BW thinks those kind of threads are fine and dandy. Enjoy. PS: Going back to my 110FPS and will stop trying to share any information. Nah its not so mych hes a troll as the standered sorry bout your bad luck comment that I see alot. Ihave read your post but when you ask people what there gpu is runing at most them have no clue. If it was a simple easy fix I would just edit all the files and mirror site them for friends. Its not and we have to take in account people need there hands held. Why you because not everyone can just see it in there head and know how to twick it. Ihave also found there some really bad info going around. Ihad to slick and redo my friends pc because crap from utube. But telling a true gamer to do that is a joke for not a true fix. If I redo my os its almost 3 days of reloads between wow ultra and all the file sharing I do.
ShoteR
my problem is at PvP areas such as huttball and alderan for an example , from outside these areas i can run the game on high easily. i'm not 50 yet but i'm afraid i'm going to suffer to do operations , my Latency also increase at those pvp maps aswell , abilities start to have delay or even don't work and i die because of it , it's pretty annoying and i expect a fix soon my computer specs are , Amd Athlon II X4 3.0 GHz , 4gb RAM DDR3 , ATI Radeon HD5770 1 GB DDR5 , i can run games such as crysis 2 and battlefield 3 on max settings without problems so that's not my PC problem it's the game problem

CyberPrey
I have 1 year old laptop (bought previous December) with most powerful video card at that moment - having 15-25fps on fleet. Most powerful video card is not a great description.... For everyone out there, specs are good.

Dementza
There's your problem A LAPTOP cannot run a game half as well as a PC can. There are a (very) few companies that make professional gaming laptops, but those aren't going to be anything < $2k. Anything else is going to give you minimal performance, which you're seeing. You want optimal performance? Use a desktop You are an idiot! Gaming laptops are called like that because they are for GAMING! Asus G73 series, G74 , Alienware etc. There are laptops out there who can put up with ANY game at the moment on full details but have problems with SWTOR! Ignorant ppl like you make this life a crap place to live in!
Yakito
There's your problem A LAPTOP cannot run a game half as well as a PC can. There are a (very) few companies that make professional gaming laptops, but those aren't going to be anything < $2k. Anything else is going to give you minimal performance, which you're seeing. You want optimal performance? Use a desktop I guess you love saying things that you have no idea about. My gaming laptop is 1,5 years old and it runs Crysis, Crysis 2, Skyrim and many many other new games on High or not Ultra, yet I get 10 fps in 16 man ops in ToR. Now please tell me that I should buy a desktop if I want to run the game well.
Zelmac
Question for the community...I'm curious to know what version of windows that people who are not having issues are running. I'm not certain, but reading through a lot of the posts in this thread and others, it gives the impression that the majority of FPS issues seem to be coming from people with 64 bit OS's. I may be wrong...but you never know...

Hyper_
To be fair, you saying most people are having performance problems is completely unfounded out of all the people who play his game a small percentage even look at these forums, on top of that people are more likely to post something if they are having problems. sure there is evidence of it on quite a few cases bit unless you can show me 1 million plus unique accounts that are having problems youcant really say most people. Also I think bioware would have a better idea about what's happening in their game assuming they used stats from the in game support.
LogicalPremise
Also I think bioware would have a better idea about what's happening in their game assuming they used stats from the in game support. And of course if they found a large % of the base was having such issues they would rush to tell us, "Yep, guys, we messed it all up". Pause for sustained, hollow laughter. TomSwagger
I myself have been playing this for a little over a month. I've been up and down the web looking at different tweaks and forums about performance issues and how to resolve them. I have a very good computer and internet connection, take a look for yourselves. To me, unless it's something on my end it's unacceptable that I drop as low as 15 fps in some areas. Grundledeep
You are right probably MOST aren't, but many are. Lots of people also don't realize they are acting having a problem. I bet somewhere between 10-15% of people who have more then minimum specs are having some kind of performance issue. I know at least 10 people from a guild of 50 who quit because of how the game performs. Sure that's not most of the guild, but that's a lot no matter how you spin it. Ditched
Yeah, its depressing how I can barely play warzones. Even going to the imperial fleet is a mess.
grueber
You are an idiot! Gaming laptops are called like that because they are for GAMING!! Don't embarrass yourself. I mean really. You are embarrassing yourself. As someone who knows how to build and overclock systems laptops are POS. Why? Because their compact design causes them to suffer from heat issues. Because unlike a desktop you cannot drop a custom cpu cooler to allow for large overclocks. Because their "mobility" graphics is a gimped POS compared to the equivalent desktop card. Both Nvidia and AMD play the stupid numbering system with their vid cards that most consumers have no idea what they mean unless they carefully research. Most of these posts are hilariously funny because people think their system is "good". Well most of them are not for serious gaming. If you want the best performance for the buck dump the laptop and build your own desktop, preferably with a single card solution. Crossfire/SLI always are behind compared to a single card solution because the performance is highly dependent on the video drivers and game. oakamp
There's your problem A LAPTOP cannot run a game half as well as a PC can. There are a (very) few companies that make professional gaming laptops, but those aren't going to be anything < $2k. Anything else is going to give you minimal performance, which you're seeing. You want optimal performance? Use a desktop why should i use a PC, i only use a laptop or a high end server, BW should do it right , not the consumer to meet the need of BW . Gee I dunno, maybe because it's a game for the PC? Your like someone complaining your car is too slow when you choose to drive a Yugo on a highway. Life-ender
You are an idiot! Gaming laptops are called like that because they are for GAMING! Asus G73 series, G74 , Alienware etc. There are laptops out there who can put up with ANY game at the moment on full details but have problems with SWTOR! Ignorant ppl like you make this life a crap place to live in! ALL laptops are giant heatsinks. Aside from suspending it in liquid nitrogen it will never give you the performance of a a well built and set up PC . The term gaming laptop is a lose term , yeah it will play games but so does my phone. You will never reach performance levels of a mid grade rig just based on power consumption and heat distribution. Andryah
ALL laptops are giant heatsinks. Aside from suspending it in liquid nitrogen it will never give you the performance of a a well built and set up PC . Well designed gaming laptops are fine. Poorly designed ones are not. You do not need a well built PC to run this game at 60 FPS with high settings and zero issues. A good gaming laptop will do it just fine. Anything more is overkill. Welcome to the modern era of laptops. Don't want to use a laptop, fine, don't. But all the laptop hate in this thread is absurd.

The only person embarrassing themselves here is you with all your rhetoric and hatred. You need enough computer to run this game at 60 fps on high settings with no visible latency. Anything more is wasted metal and plastic. A well designed laptop plays the game at 60 fps with zero issues. I know, because I play on one. No heat issues, no lag, no stuttering, all wth stock settings right out of the box.

Welcome to the modern era of laptops. Don't want to use a laptop, fine, don't. But all the laptop hate in this thread is absurd. Those laptops you are talking about are in excess of $1500. Not only that, but laptop go out-of-date even faster than desktops because their graphics cards are significantly weaker and most cannot be updated. If you want to be picky, it also depends on the native resolution of the laptop. Most people are not spending that kind of money on their laptops.
