Recommend a darkness build for leveling (around 38)

I'm currently level 38, and have been leveling as Deception, but I'm having so much trouble it's ridiculous. I have to revive Khem Val after every other fight , and if I try using any other companion I die super fast. I read somewhere that around 38-40 it gets easier using a Darkness spec with Talos as the companion. Can anyone recommend a good build, or let me know if this is an accurate description? I'm ready to try anything to end the frustration I'm experiencing currently.

I got to Hoth @ lvl 36. I'm a Darkness spec...was using Talos at first, but I wasn't really taking much damage and honestly didn't need Talos, so I switched to Andro for the DPS. Most things are 1-2 lvls above me and I've had no problems flying through the first few quests on Hoth.

Try equipping a shield offhand & using Dark Charge instead of lightning/surging charge.

Re-specing to Darkness would help your survivability a lot.

Dark charge going at all times, usually Andro companion for DPS. Keep dark ward up while fighting(its like every 10 seconds).

I always take out regular-powered mobs first, and then strong/elite.

Stealth, speed to regular_mob_1's back, Maul, stomp(I forget the name, the jumping AE knockback we have), tumult, get behind again and maul should kill him in the first few seconds. I usually throw up Dark Ward somewhere in the middle of this(its not on GCD).

At this point some mobs will be turned on your companion. Go give each of them a good Maul since they conveniently left their back to you.

With the stomp and tumult on CD after the first mob is down, I do shock -> maul -> regular swipe any others. Rarely waste my electrocute on non strong/elites, and I don't really use force lightning much PvE unless im kiting a melee strong/elite.

Strong/Elites:

Main thing with these guys is to keep them interrupted(stomp, jolt, electrocute). Try to save up to near full force when you use electrocute, you will have just enough time to get in 2 mauls while he is stunned. Shock won't stun strong and above mobs, but it still does great damage, so spam it every time its up.

Melee - very easy usually - hit on them a little to get aggro, let andro dps them while you kite around w/ force speed, force slow, force lightning, stomp...you have a lot of abilities to help you kite.

Ranged - same thing - get aggro, and LOS kite them(run around a column and keep it between you). pop out for a quick shock every once in a while and let andro dps him.

When he switches aggro to andros, go maul him till he turns around. you also have mind control, mass mind control to get aggro back.

tldr The more maul you can get in in a fight, the better. spam shock when its up. Dark ward ALWAYS up. Dark Charge all the time.

He's stating Dark Charge mode its one of our stances it increases def and turns discharge into a aoe it's our tanking stance. If you haven't been using dark charge mode all this time damn no wonder u been getting owned... IN DC mode with a shield generator you have at least some good mitigation for dual tanking with Khem or tank + dps with Ashara or Andi I <3 Ashara she rocks the house once geared and given a second light saber...

Dark Charge

Instant

Force: 50

Charges your lightsaber with dark energy, giving your attacks a 50% chance to drain life force from the target, dealing 179 internal damage and healing you for 130. This effect cannot occur more than once every 1.5 seconds. Increases your armor rating by 150%, shield chance by 15% and threat generation by 50%. While active, melee bonus damage is reduced by 5%. Requires a double-bladed lightsaber. Does not break Stealth.

Discharge

Instant

Force: 20

Range: 10m

Unleashes your current lightsaber charge upon the target, applying an effect based on your current charge. Only usable with a charged lightsaber. Requires a double-bladed lightsaber.

Lightning Charge: Deals 1448 periodic energy damage over 18 seconds.

Dark Charge: Strikes up to 5 nearby enemies, dealing 377 - 441 internal damage and decreasing the targets' accuracy by 5% for the next 18 seconds.

Surging Charge: Deals 930 - 995 internal damage.

As full deception I use DC mode and shield generator vs harder content it gives greater survival vs a minor loss in dps that I don't miss at all.

For the record, I hardly ever use Discharge in Dark Charge mode - it does crap damage/heal(though they are supposed to have buffed it to scale a little?) and doesn't seem worth the 1.5s GCD that it wastes. I suppose it works at the beginning of a fight to get all the mobs to aggro on you.

Didn't know she can use a 2nd saber, will definitely have to try that.

I dunno, I'm just incredibly frustrated. I switched to a tank spec and using Talos, it isn't much easier. On Belsavis, I basically die every quest. If a gold mob is involved, I die faster than Talos can heal me. No clue what is going wrong.
