waynlaw Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 I am still in act 1 of the Smuggler storyline, and I am very underwhelmed. I have been running around Taris and Nar Shadaa doing what? Chasing after some random treasure because Risha says so? I know in act two Rogun the Butcher becomes prominent, but is there anything more to it than that? I am also playing a Consular and that story feels far more epic and involved with the world. Saving the Jedi from a Sith mind control plague feels far more epic than treasure hunting. I also know bits about the Jedi Knight, Sith Warrior and Imperial Agent storylines, and they all sound more involving than the Smuggler. So does the smuggler ever get involved on a bigger scale? Or is it a personal story all the way? Can someone give me a brief synopsis of act 3, without totally ruining the ending? (some minor spoilers are unavoidable I know)
DarkestDaemon Posted January 12, 2012 Posted January 12, 2012 You mean the class that is designed around a character archetype commonly out for themselves and their own trail of wealth doesn't feel involved with the main storyline? Surprising! Sarcasm aside, while I've only just arrived on Alderaan on my smuggler, I'm taking the quests from a different approach and view. Despite Han, I don't see the smuggler as a heroic class. Smugglers always look out for themselves. Generally, one only gets drawn into greater affairs despite their best efforts to stay neutral. When I mentioned taking the quests from a different approach... well, to give a comparison, my main is a Sith Warrior. That quest chain is, quite honestly, beyond epic. With my smuggler, I'm taking it on as a class not given to the over-dramatic and the heroic. I'm looking at it as if I were playing a rogue. You're subtle, conniving, your quest chain is carrying you toward a treasure that'll make you rich. The Empire and Republic can burn for all you care.

I am not expecting my smuggler to infiltrate the Sith Dark Council of stare down the Emperor. But if you read the timeline on the SWTOR website, the Mandalorian Blockade was crippling the republic during the war. The smugglers were the people who broke the blockade, reopening the supply lines, enabling the republic to supply it's troops at the front. Sure they did it because they saw a massive profit in it. But it got them involved in the main story, while still retaining their independence. Things like smuggling stuff off of Imperial planets could be entertaining. Fetching some random crap so my contact on Taris will give me the info I need so I can go fetch some more random crap is not engaging. I like the gameplay, and love the dialogue. But I would like to know if act 3 gets more epic in its scale?
Rasen Posted January 12, 2012 Posted January 12, 2012 Chapter 1 is all about the Smuggler's quest for personal riches and fame. When you do succeed Chapter 2 shifts to you getting involved with the Republic as a 'pirate' so to speak. This is where you begin fighting the Empire more directly and getting involved. That's as far as I got.

Sabne Posted January 16, 2012 Posted January 16, 2012 you see this is the answer I was looking for, people who say "smuggler's are always out for themselvs is not true at all, if anyone is has any history in starwars smugglers do have very high intrest in helping the republic, not only for personal gain but also for the fact that the republic stands for freedom and so do the smugglers. Now of course you will come across smugglers only in it for the money but you also find Jedi only in it for power, turing into sith, If any one has played a game for the N64 called shadow of the empire you take control of a smuggler who gives if life to save the rebellion. So smugglers do and can have a very important role in the "main sotry line" and I would love to see it.
Wingofbenu Posted January 16, 2012 Posted January 16, 2012 To be fair, us smugglers have a damned good reason to side with the Republic even if theyre darksided, greedy knaves. The empire tends to torture and execute pirates and smugglers. The republic just locks them in a jail cell. Well, that, and the empire tends to hate stuff smugglers like like freedom of choice or carefree starship jockeying.
