That's one reason I love living in Japan, the order of everything is always biggest to smallest. year > month > date > hour > minute county > prefecture >city > ward > neighborhood > neighborhood divisions (they don't do street numbers, just smaller and smaller chunks) clan > family name > given name Of course there's a reason. For centuries the West has believed that individuals are important; the East has believed that society (or a system) is first for millennia.
