Ranged is not OP

Line of sight has and always will be the biggest and easiest tool to exploit. You should never die in a fair fight against ranged (merely because they're ranged) unless you are in a big open field with absolutely zero obstacles, which exists nowhere. Not only is this the death of all ranged classes if manipulated correctly, but this game in particular is very sensitive about it, you can run past an obstacle for 0.5 seconds and any ability they are casting will be interrupted.

 

If you think ranged has a distinct advantage then you must be a derp wondering why running at them, in a slow strait line, they kill you. This is coming from someone who plays both melee and ranged with the only problems being class specific.

 

This isn't a l2p no0bs post, all you need to do is use your head a little.

lol i dunno guys, ive deffinately been tracer missle spammed through walls and floors before. try to leap at them and fall through the map.

 

Yeah ... the LoS does not always work :) 3 meters of thick walls ... trace missle in your face.

Ranged is OP right now because of the framerate issue in WZ's screws over melee very often. I've charged, followed it up with a force choke and while my force choke ticked on the person they suddenly disappeared and reappeared some 20 yards away from me while still stunned. It's pretty bad right now.

you mean when ppl run away from you, rofl? poor poor ranged players

 

It's actually quite hilarious when you pilar hug with lvl 13 sage and lvl 50 player spends 20 seconds chasing you around because he just does not understand what's going on.

My point was that, yeah, you can survive longer by LoSing ranged, but you cant kill it. Its like die or run away, there is not "kill" choice;)

True ... but them spending time on getting me down but not killing me means they don't spend the time on other stuff. One of the strategies for void star for example is to bait enemies to chase after you. If they are stupid enough to do so ... it creates an opening to plant bomb.

I am a madness sorc and all i have are basically DOT's.Don't tell me Sorcs are OP because they are not.Its how you play your class and what stats you work for.

If you can't take down a sorc ... YOU'RE DOING IT WRONG !! lol

Wow, next time I find myself in the face of a ranged class, I'll be sure to hide behind the nearest wall so his hard hitting abilities can't hit me!

You didn't read my post, I am saying ranged are OP because of the framerate issue that is currently affecting warzones, client and server communication having difficulty determining where a player is supposed to be standing. I think once that is fixed the situation will sort itself out.

Everyone QQ'ing about tracer missile. there's ability lag. If I use my tracer missile while you're still in line of sight. Then you run behind the wall while I'm still charging it. it will still hit you through walls. I can not use it on you if you are already LoS.

 

Just l2p imo. My main is assasin and I see no problem with ranged classes. And I have no force leap. All I have is a sprint.

Ive solo'd some 50s on my 25 sage quite a few times, ya they have a advantage but if there terribad then gg free kill...

Probably because they shot it off just before the target went out of los. Since those attacks have a travel time to the target.

I love ranged opposition in huttball! They have a distinct knack for standing in the best spots for me to leap to for an easy score! Just pick the guys standing the closest to the goal line and bam..... instantly past all opposition for free wins!

try fighting a bounty hunter or a trooper and say that.

It's not just abut surviving, everyones got a gap closer/snare that takes away the advantage of range, if it's on cd and you can't get to them you merely have to sit behind a pillar until it's up or they chase you, or you might ignore each other all together.

 

People complaining about tracer missile going through walls just experiencing lag, and if the missile fires, it's going to to hit you no matter where you are.

 

I play a sniper myself (also strictly PvP on my juggernaut) and I have no issues at all with abilities "going through walls" your just seeing the particles/effects/animations catching up with you.

LOS does work, just depends if anyone else is there hitting you to make the difference between life and death lol.

P.S. Ive been playing both in a lot of PvP over the past 8 years and I've never once felt that ranged is more op because they are ranged, each have their strengths and weaknesses, it's not hard to exploit them.

You like to insult yourself every time you post.

 

I also like your philosophy that you should have to LOS exploit to beat ranged classes. The ranged classes do more on demand burst damage in this game over melee (FACT). Every game anywhere close to balanced has the opposite formula where ranged are more high dps with stacking/combo/skillchains that lead to burst damage and melee can do ON DEMAND burst damage mostly based on cooldowns.

 

Just by your lack of knowledge you clearly have NOT been playing anything for 8 years. I wouldn't be surprised if either this is your FIRST MMO, or Second (first being WoW)

The thing with ranged vs melee in this game is that a good (or even just decent) ranged player, say, a BH/Trooper, can 2 or 3 shot you before you get near them. A sorc/sage can keep you constantly CCed from 100% HP to 0% HP. Melee doesn't get these things. I'm not saying melee is underpowered, it just requires more than 1/8 of a brain, but ranged is by far easier to play. Edited by nschlan
