Appearance Matters, Bioware! Gear differences matter!

Ok, not going to make this too long. This is about endgame gear. We should all be aware by now that the highest tier purple gear is pretty much the best gear anyone can get. So once people actually grind out that gear in whichever manner they choose, PVP, Raids, or crafting, which is silly because the same raids the schematics drop in, the actual PIECES drop in..

We will all look pretty much the same. As a new 50, i'm still wearing my level 40 pvp gear for sith warriors. Its pretty lame starting a match of huttball or whatever and seeing 3 others who look exactly the same. Who's idea was it to just reskin the same models and call it something different? Same with the custom speeders? Everything in the game feels very little differentiated, and homogonized to the point of banality. People like having things be different. even if they are 1% different and are willing to work their asses off to get something even 1% different.

I guarantee if you made the speeders cybertech makes LOOK different than the other ones and maybe give them a 2% speed increase... (and removed the stupid BOP) then suddenly there would be a market for them. Everyone running around with the same stuff, the same speeders, the same ships, Not really being able to look different (except social items which are useless in combat except for light armor classes anyway) Is no fun!

That said, i will continue to play and am still pleased with the game. Heres a TL;DR version for you reading-challenged folks

Bioware: If you want your game to succeed... please take these suggestions

1) Differentiate the Gear

2) Make every crew skill actually worthwhile and not overshadowed by raid/pvp gear

3) Perhaps appearance tab if you guys are too lazy for #1

4) do something with the atrocious space combat system

5) Loosen up the restricions on weapons. It makes no sense that a BH is FORCED to use pistols. Boba fett used a rifle. Come on. Likewise agent's should be able to use pistols, assassins should be able to use one handed sabers, etc. Some of these seem obvious. People's cosmetics and simple little things like that mean alot to them. I was bummed to find out that i HAD to pick juggernaut if i wanted to be melee and use only a single one handed saber. That's lame. You've already forced us to pick one class and stick with it. Give us the ability to play it the way we want. Little things DO matter.

ps, learn from galaxies.

Didn't Galaxies ya know... die?

Yes, it is dead. Did you think lucasarts would let more than one MMO of star wars exist at one time? Its death is a direct result of the old republic.

That said, Galaxies had a number of things going for it. Space combat was ACTUALLY COOL.

There was alot of item differentiation. Jedi's could use whatever kind of saber they wanted. Other classes had a bigger range of weapon choices for their skills. Crafting was not rendered useless by raid gear.

So... yes. But that doesn't mean Bioware can't take what was good in it and use it for their advantage. BTW galaxies had an APPEARANCE TAB.

The gear in this game is horrible. I have yet to actually say "whoa cool" to any one single piece of clothing on my Sith warrior or Imperial Agent.

Concept art for this game was waaaaaaaaaaaaaay to cool to be true.

lol-- yeah. I've been looking everywhere for the cool looking armor in the Imperial Agent promotional images. Some was concept art, some was in-game... but so far I've seen none of it.

Some of the level 50 Rakata gear looks cool, but that's about it. The rest has been oddly orange trenchcoats and lopsided goggles that make my character look like some sort of intergalactic garbage man.

Umm it died because of Sony, not because of the design choices made before Smedley ruined it with the NGE.

Yes. The NGE sucked. But even after the NGE my simple point is that it had a number of features SWTOR could benefit from.

1) yes

2) no, raids should have the best gear, crafting should give wow style perks better mods/more slots

3) maybe, but only allowing gear you actually posses and can equip

4) eventually, this should be a low prioroity compared to so many of the other issues

5) definitely, in fact loosen up restriction on pretty much everything but armor class

yes learn from galaxies removed all the emptiness.

  • 3 weeks later...

Seriously im a lvl 30 juggernaut and just bought a set of lvl 40 pvp gear that by far looks the best, the lvl 50 gear especially the raid gear's appearance is a joke! why do sith warriors have to look like a cyborg from Mortal Kombat and I feel sorry for Inquisitors who have to look like a 12th century Mongolian Warrior.

Whoever they got to design the gear should be fired, they need to completely re-design the endgame gear as it gives no encouragement to acquire other than obvious stat benefits. Appearance wise they are just plain horrible and its sad how we have to be forced into wearing such bad looking apparel at lvl cap.

Bioware please take care of this issue and re-design all raid gear and pvp gear as they are a disaster appearance wise.
